Sergei Afanasiev will be the poleman for the first race of the Auto GP weekend in Valencia, that will start today at 1.35 PM.
The Russian driver posted a 1’23”436, a laptime that allowed him to take the top spot in the final stages of a thrillingly-close session that saw the top three drivers packed in just 0”08 and 12 competitors in just eight tenths. So the DAMS driver managed to keep momentum after his impressive performances in Oschersleben, and got an ideal start to a weekend where his aim is to further reduce the gap from championship leader Kevin Ceccon.

Valencia, Free Practice 1: Filippi leads the pack
Luca Filippi still leads the pack in Valencia. The SuperNova driver climbed at the top of the timesheet in the first minutes of the second Free Practice session, posting a 1’23”702 on used tyres that hints to a great potential for tomorrow’s Qualifying.

Fabrizio Crestani grabbed pole position for the Oschersleben round of Auto GP.
The Lazarus driver was the quickest after a thrilling session, stopped with 3 minutes to go due to an accident for Francesco Dracone. Qualifying saw many lead changes: Adrien Tambay topped the sheets with the first set of tyres, then at mid-session with the second set Kevin Ceccon took the lead first, then pipped by Sergei Afanasiev.

Oschersleben, Free Practice 2: Afanasiev on top
It’s fighting time already for the Auto GP drivers: in the first Free Practice session, the guys decided to give their best from the very first laps: as a result, six drivers are packed in just half a second and the track record (a 1’19”9 that had been posted by F2) has already been beaten by 2 seconds.

“Winning in front of Carroll makes it even better” – Buttarelli
He already won Race 2 in Brno and doing it again in today’s Sprint Race in Donington he became the first Auto GP driver to clinch two race wins in 2011: Samuele Buttarelli boasted a really amazing drive, leading the pack from flag to flag and controlling the race like a veteran despite feeling the pressure of Adam Carroll behind him.

Racing at home had a very good effect on Jon Lancaster and SuperNova Racing
The british pair emerged from a treacherous Race 1 in Donington with a win for Jon and a one-two result for the team thanks to the 2nd place clinched by Luca Filippi, boasting both some great driving and a good strategy by the team.

It’s still Lazarus on top in Donington, as the Italian team topped the sheets again in the second Free Practice session.
If in the first session Fabrizio Crestani was the quickest, this time the team boasted a one-two, with Fabio Onidi emerging as the quickest with 1’17”206, a laptime that left his team mate 2 tenths adrift. Behind them was Samuele Buttarelli, who confirmed the impressive morning shape with a 1’17”861 that was enough to keep at bay the SuperNova pair.

Fabrizio Crestani and Lazarus started the Donington weekend in the best possible way.
The Italian driver posted the fastest time in the first Free Practice, being the only one to break the 1’18 mark with 1’17”841. The team managed by Tancredi Pagiaro crowned a very good performance with a third place by Fabio Onidi, less than 3 tenths adrift from his team mate. In between them was Kevin Ceccon, at his first experience in Donington but already at ease with the Ombra Racing car.

There’s a new entry for Auto GP and Campos Racing
The Spanish team, committed to the Series with three cars, reached an agreement with Adam Carroll. The british driver will race for the team from the Donington round until the end of the season, driving the #33 formerly raced by Marco Barba, who decided to temporarily stop his career in motor racing.

“My last win dated back to 2009 on this same track” – Sergei Afanasiev
With a commanding performance Sergei Afanasiev won the second round of the Auto GP Hungarian event, after an exciting race and a very eventful first lap. At the start Rodolfo Gonzalez was the best off the line, and took the lead entering first corner starting from second row.

Sub judice win for Kevin Ceccon in Race 1 in Budapest
After a race that was deeply influenced by the Safety-Car that came on track on lap 9 for a crash involving Marco Barba. The Safety-Car picked up Filippi but the Italian driver wasn’t the leader anymore, as he had just served his mandatory pit-stop.

Budapest, Free Practice 1: Filippi on the run
If Filippi gave a clear message in Practice 1, in the second session it was team Lazarus who gave a clear answer: the Italian team indeed placed both its driver at the top of the timesheets, with Crestani posting an impressive 1’34”741 that improved the best time from the morning practice by 1 full second, so managing to stay ahead of his team mate Onidi by just 1 tenth.
