Fuel strategy won out at Long Beach on Saturday with Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr winning the Tequila Patrón American Le Mans Series at Long Beach for the second straight season. The Muscle Milk Honda Performance Development ARX-03a stopped twice during the race’s sole caution period and ran the final 56 minutes without another stop to win over Dyson Racing.

An unusual rainy day in southern California washed away qualifying for the Tequila Patrón American Le Mans Series at Long Beach. That left Dyson Racing’s Mazda-powered Lola coupe on pole position for Saturday’s second round of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón.

Luhr quickest in damp Long Beach practice
Muscle Milk in pursuit of second straight southern California win
Lucas Luhr ended a damp practice Friday morning with the fastest time in a two-hour session for the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón. The two-time ALMS winner at Long Beach set a time of 1:33.121 (76.082 mph) in Muscle Milk Pickett Racing’s Honda Performance Development ARX-03a. He and Klaus Graf are the defending overall race winners and can become the first pair to win in consecutive years at the Tequila Patrón American Le Mans Series at Long Beach.

Fresh off a record-setting season opener at Sebring, a full grid from the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón heads west to America’s premier street racing festival. A total of 35 cars are set for the Tequila Patrón American Le Mans Series at Long Beach, tying 2010’s field as the largest of any kind at Long Beach in more than 15 years.

F1 needs two US races on east/west coasts – Whitmarsh
“The west coast and the east coast are the natural homes for F1 in America.” – Bob Fernley
Formula one needs the US but Martin Whitmarsh has admitted he would have preferred a pair of races on the east and west coasts. After Indianapolis hosted America’s most recent grand prix in 2007, the sport will return to the USA next June to race on a bespoke circuit in the capital of Texas.

Mechanical problem sidelines Ferreira on the streets of Long Beach
Conor Daly wins in Long Beach
A gearbox problem on the #28 LS Sports/Sonangol/BHA entry brought an early end to a promising run by rookie Duarte Ferreira this afternoon in Firestone Indy Lights competition. Ferreira, who started 15th, was running in 11th place after completing two textbook passes and benefiting from the misfortune of others. He retired on Lap 17 of the 45-lap race.

Guy Smith sets the pace early at Long Beach
Dyson Lola-Mazda nips Muscle Milk Aston Martin coupe
After a practice session dominated by Muscle Milk Aston Martin Racing, Guy Smith threw down the fastest lap for Dyson Racing on Friday morning in practice for the Tequila Patrón American Le Mans Series at Long Beach. The Englishman set a time of 1:16.780 in Mazda-powered Lola that he will share with Chris Dyson in Saturday’s race.
