At the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve
Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) and Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team) traded wins at the final round of the championship in Portugal in a day that promised and delivered close racing in hot weather conditions in front of an 86,000 crowd. Effenbert-Liberty Racing Ducati rider Sylvain Guintoli almost gave the new-for-2011 team its first race win in race one, but Checa prevailed at the end.

This coming weekend at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve
The 2011 FIM Superbike World Championship makes the long trek down to the southern tip of Portugal for the final round of the season this coming weekend at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. The Portuguese circuit, which joined the WSB calendar in 2008, is back as season closer once again this year after a break in 2010 when it hosted round 2.

Rea and Checa score race victories
Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) came within three points of winning the Superbike World Championship outright at Imola, after posting a third place in race one and his 12th victory of the year in race two. He was only stopped in his title tracks by the eighth and sixth places put in by Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team) who is now 97 points behind Carlos with only two rounds left to go. Had Melandri left 100 points or more behind the Spaniard, Carlos would have been champion today.

Imola prepares for World Superbike weekend – Davies one step closer to the title in World Supersport
Excitement is growing over the 11th round of the 2011 FIM Superbike World Championship, which comes to Imola’s Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit, one of the most spectacular in the history of motor sport. A new track resurfacing should help to mix up the cards but in any case Imola, with its legendary title battles of the past still fresh in the memory, still remains a fascinating and atmospheric venue for all fans.

Checa posted a superb opening win
World Championship leader Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) once again showed the reasons why he is out front in the points standings with three rounds to run, after posting an assured win in race one and then holding his nerve in atrociously wet conditions in race two to score points for eighth place – all on a day when his main championship rival was ruled out.

Just one month after the last round, held at Silverstone, the 2011 Superbike World Championship gets down to the usual hectic action once again with the first of four rounds in a month and a half that will lead to the crowning of this year’s champion.

Just like the previous round at Motorland Aragon, Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team) and Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia Racing Team) swapped wins and second places at another hot race circuit, as Marco won race one and Max won race two. In taking a hard fought victory, Max continued his amazing relationship with Brno, posting his 11th career win in world championship events at this 5.403km long venue.

Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) took his second Tissot-Superpole win of the year today by posting a lap of 1 minute 58.580 seconds, holding off the push of his fellow Italian Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike).

More is expected of Biaggi at his all-time favourite circuit for tomorrow and Sunday
Two Ducatis led the way in this afternoon’s first qualifying session for the Czech Republic Round at Brno, the quickest being the Althea Racing machine of points leader Carlos Checa. The Spaniard’s time of 1 minute 59.322 seconds was a couple of tenths quicker than the one recorded by the next man, home favourite Jakub Smrz on the all-Czech Effenbert-Liberty Racing 1098R.

The FIM Superbike World Championship moves into the second half of the season this weekend with the Czech Republic Round at the classic Automotodrom Brno circuit in the heart of Moravia. The 5.403 km track is full of ups and downs throughout and has a total of 14 curves; the spectacular nature of the track and its strategic location mean that numerous fans will undoubtedly come over from neighbouring Eastern European countries as well as from Italy and Germany.

Jonathan Rea and Carlos Checa scored a win apiece at Assen today
The race was held in dry and occasionally sunny conditions at this classic Dutch track. Rea was particularly happy to see his first victory arrive at his team’s home circuit, after some tough times early in the season. It is Checa, however, who can leave with the greatest satisfaction as he now has a clear points lead over Max Biaggi, 132 – 89.
