Lotus ART driver sets quickest time on final day of post season testing
Today marked the final day of GP3 Series™ post-season testing at Circuito De Jerez and the teams were greeted with cool temperatures in the morning. There was just one new face in paddock with Aaro Vainio returning to Lotus ART. Tom Blomqvist switched teams to Status Grand Prix, Facu Regalia also switched to the Irish team for Day 2. Conor Daly moved back to Carlin and Fabio Gamberini to RSC Mücke Motorsport.

Cypriot driver Tio Ellinas tops Day 1 of post season testing at Circuito De Jerez for Marussia Manor Racing
The final 2011 GP3 Series™ post season test kicked off today at Circuito De Jerez in sunny but cool morning conditions. Familiar faces in the paddock included Daniel Abt who was last week’s quickest man in Valencia, and American Conor Daly who joined the German at Lotus ART.

Félix da Costa claims rookie title
In the rain at Hockenheim, Edoardo Mortara (Signature) confirmed the strong form he had already been showing throughout the season. Having been crowned as the new champion four weeks ago already, he scored his seventh win of the season at the 3.736 kilometres long Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg.

Jim Pla (ART Grand Prix) has won the 16th season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series at the 3.969 kilometres long Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. The rookie from France was followed home by Marco Wittmann (Signature) and Nicolas Marroc (Prema Powerteam). With his second place and the retirement of his opponent Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix), Wittmann is now eight points ahead of Finn Bottas in the battle for runner-up spot. Already-crowned champion Edoardo Mortara (Signature) already retired on the opening lap.

Edoardo Mortara: portrait of the Euro Series champion
Edoardo Mortara (Signature) is the new Formula 3 Euro Series’ champion. For the 23-year old Italian, sixth place at Oschersleben was enough, as his only remaining rival Marco Wittmann (Signature) only finished one place behind Mortara. The Signature driver claimed the maiden drivers’ title in the Formula 3 Euro Series for his engine partner Volkswagen.

In early September at Brands Hatch, Team Signature succeeded in securing the Formula 3 Euro Series team title early and now, the French squad’s driver Edoardo Mortara has got the chance of following his team’s footsteps by securing the drivers’ championship early on the coming race weekend, held at the 3.696-kilometre Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.

At the 1.929 kilometres short Brands Hatch Indy circuit, Edoardo Mortara (Signature) scored his sixth race win in the 2010 Formula 3 Euro Series and his fifth consecutive victory on a Saturday. With this result, the Geneva-based Italian further extends his points’ lead in the Formula 3 Euro Series and is now 26 points clear of Marco Wittmann (Signature). The German ended up third in the 13th season round behind Mortara and Belgian Laurens Vanthoor (Signature).

Portuguese António Félix da Costa (Motopark Academy) secured the second win of the season for the Motopark Academy team. At the 3.629 kilometres long Nürburgring sprint circuit, the rookie took the lead at the start and kept Marco Wittmann (Signature) at bay for the remainder of the race.

The hunt for leader Mortara starts
In the Eifel, the Formula 3 Euro Series season reaches its half-way point this weekend. The unofficial title of ’half time champion’ can’t be taken away from Edoardo Mortara (Signature), as the Geneva-based Italian comes to the 3.629 kilometres long Nürburgring with a margin of 15 points.

After two victories in the Masters of Formula 3, Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix) finally has scored his maiden race win in the Formula 3 Euro Series at the 2.3 kilometres long Norisring. The Finn, who was the best-placed rookie in last year’s standings, was accompanied on the podium by Marco Wittmann (Signature) and Edoardo Mortara (Signature).
