Lotus’ technical boss thinks many teams will continue to use ‘step’ noses in 2013.
The first 2013 car to be unveiled on Monday, Enstone based Lotus’ E21 still features the indecorous ‘step’ synonymous with last year’s grid, despite the FIA now allowing teams to please the fans by installing a so-called ‘modesty’ laminate.

Sebastien Buemi will remain Red Bull’s official third and reserve driver in 2013, the Swiss newspaper Sonntagsblick reports.
It had already emerged that the former Toro Rosso racer, who served as Red Bull’s reserve in 2012, is now definitely out of the running for this year’s second Force India seat.

New GP2 champion Davide Valsecchi has admitted his best hope of breaking into formula one in 2013 is as a third driver.
On his fifth attempt in the F1 support series, the 25-year-old Italian this year beat Brazilian Luiz Razia to the title. Valsecchi was hoping to follow recent champions like Romain Grosjean, Pastor Maldonado and Nico Hulkenberg into F1, but admitted to Italiaracing: “At this point, I’m working to get the place of the Lotus team’s third driver.

Marking the return of Formula 1 to the USA after a five year absence
Lotus F1 Team is honoured to be the first team to take to the new Circuit of the Americas track ahead of the United States Grand Prix at Austin, Texas next month. American racing legend Mario Andretti, actor Patrick Dempsey and Lotus F1 Team third driver Jérôme D’Ambrosio will all complete demonstration runs behind the wheel of the team’s 2010 F1 challenger – the R30 – during the circuit’s Official Opening Ceremony on Sunday October 21.

Sebastian Vettel agrees that dumping Red Bull’s alternator supplier should be an option.
As the team’s engine partner Renault grapples to solve the failing alternator problem with its supplier Magneti Marelli, team boss Dietrich Mateschitz revealed last week that Red Bull is pushing the option of simply reverting to a new supplier.

Rubens Barrichello has tipped Fernando Alonso to hang onto his championship lead all the way to the 2012 finale.
Asked by O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper to pick this year’s title winner, the most experienced driver in F1 history answered: “I think Alonso.” After a record-setting career spanning 326 grands prix, 40-year-old Brazilian Barrichello switched to Indycars this year when he lost his Williams race seat.

Eric Boullier has admitted it is unlikely Jerome d’Ambrosio will make another appearance on the grand prix asphalt in 2012.
Lotus’ Boullier-managed Belgian reserve driver replaced Romain Grosjean at Monza recently, while the team’s French regular served his one-race ban. D’Ambrosio is the team’s official reserve driver, who at the start of the 2012 season was slated to make some Friday morning practice appearances in the black Lotus.

An unusually-forlorn Romain Grosjean was an unhappy pitwall spectator on Friday as he began to serve his one-race ban for last Sunday’s Spa crash. The Frenchman arrived at the Monza paddock as practice began, to watch Lotus’ reserve driver Jerome d’Ambrosio drive his black and gold car.

Lotus will not race its highly-anticipated double DRS-inspired ‘device’ at least until Suzuka next month.
The Enstone based team intended to use the straightline speed-boosting system at Spa, but Friday’s practice sessions were a washout. And Lotus will also not fit the device to Kimi Raikkonen and Jerome d’Ambrosio’s cars at Monza, due to the unique low-downforce configuration of the historic track.

Romain Grosjean’s race ban – the first in formula one for almost two decades – has not damaged the Frenchman’s relationship with Lotus.
That is the claim of his boss and manager Eric Boullier, who fended off speculation Grosjean, 26, could be on the verge of blowing his second and final shot at a grand prix career. Boullier’s other Gravity-managed driver, Belgian Jerome d’Ambrosio, is sitting in for Grosjean this weekend, prompting the risk the usually-happy Frenchman could lose momentum and – as he did at the end of 2009 – once again slide off the grid.

F1 veteran turned Indycar driver Rubens Barrichello is desperate to break back into his favourite category, and has admitted his interest in Grosjean’s seat to his 1.7 million Twitter followers.

D’Ambrosio said it is not clear if he will get the opportunity to drive the E20 in Friday practice at another grand prix this year.
He may be Lotus’ Belgian reserve driver, but Jerome d’Ambrosio has revealed he will not be driving the black and E20 in front of his home crowd next weekend at Spa-Francorchamps.

Ferrari has played down rumours it is close to immediately ousting Felipe Massa, insisting it is possible the struggling Brazilian will still be in a red car next year. On Twitter, the famous Italian team said the latest rumours – including a claim that former Virgin driver Jerome d’Ambrosio is a candidate to replace Massa in 2012 – are “funny”.
