ART Grand Prix driver ends final pre-season test day at the top of the timesheets
James Calado concluded his week’s work in the best possible way. Lasts season’s best rookie was quickest today at Circuito de Jerez with a laptime of 1:24.659 set this afternoon. Adrian Quaife-Hobbs set the best laptime in the morning for newcomers MP Motorsport.

Hilmer Racing driver confirms top form on Day 2 of pre-season test session
Once again, Tom Dillmann put newcomers Hilmer Motorsport on top in Jerez as the GP2 Series teams prepare for the 2013 season. On the second day of the first pre-season test session at Circuito de Jerez, the Frenchman set the quickest laptime in the morning with a 1:24.400. Stéphane Richelmi at DAMS was fastest in the afternoon.

After Williams removed its controversial solution for the ‘Coanda’-effect exhaust late last week, heads are now turning in Caterham’s direction.
Williams’ move to remove the solution reportedly followed the FIA’s Charlie Whiting telling team designer Mike Coughlan at Jerez that he deemed it illegal. But while Williams’ solution attempted to find a loophole in the regulations, Coughlan said recently he thought Caterham’s similar approach is “clearly not allowed”.

First three-day pre-season test session opens tomorrow in Spain
The 2013 GP2 Series officially kicks off tomorrow for the first test session of the year at Circuito de Jerez in Spain. Teams and drivers have gathered at the Spanish track for three days in order to prepare for the ninth season of the category which will open in twenty-four days in Sepang, Malaysia.

Sauber has found a highly-technical solution to the problem of Nico Hulkenberg’s oversized feet.
Earlier this month, we reported that the tall German’s feet are a tight squeeze in the footwell of his new C32, and “The car cannot be rebuilt”, Bild newspaper said. Hulkenberg grappled with the problem at the recent Jerez test by literally cutting away at the heel and toe of his racing boots.

After his first day at the wheel in 2013, Fernando Alonso on Tuesday had a stiff neck and a cautious round of optimism about the new Ferrari.
The Spaniard said he was “reasonably pleased” with his day of work in Barcelona, which left him third on the timesheet and a hundredth ahead of his 2012 title rival Sebastian Vettel. The psychological war may also have begun on their first head-to-head this year, with Alonso cheekily overtaking Vettel on the narrow pitlane entry as the test day officially concluded at 5pm, according to the Swiss newspaper Blick.

Every other team got their cars up and running recently at Jerez, triggering many rumours and whispers about the reason for the Oxfordshire team’s delay.

Pat Fry has contradicted reports Ferrari is heading into the 2013 season with another fundamentally-flawed formula one car.
Last year, the famous Italian team had a memorably bad start to the championship with the F2012′s initial configuration. Felipe Massa, however, sounded much happier with the new F138 at Jerez recently, and he set the fastest lap of the entire test week, although some reports say his body-language gave away the real story of the car’s early potential.

Since the sport’s feeder series began in 2005, every champion – Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton, Timo Glock, Nico Hulkenberg, Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean – has recorded his place in F1 history.
