Charles Pic has today been announced as one of Caterham F1 Team’s race drivers for the 2013 season and beyond.
Tony Fernandes has confirmed reports he is stepping down as boss of his formula one team Caterham.
That might be news for team driver Heikki Kovalainen, who earlier played down the rumours when asked by the Finnish broadcaster MTV3. “Tony told me recently that he is 100 per cent committed to the team,” he was quoted as saying.

Caterham F1 Team has today confirmed that Cyril Abiteboul will join the team as CEO, responsible for all the team’s on and off-track operations and reporting to Caterham Group CEO Riad Asmat and Chairman Tony Fernandes. Until January 2013 Cyril, currently Deputy Managing Director of Renault Sport F1, will split his duties between Caterham F1 Team and Renault Sport F1 to finalise ongoing projects.
F1 engine supplier Renault is now devoting 70 per cent of its efforts into the sport’s new 6-cylinder turbo formula for 2014.
This year’s championship and the next are the last in which the cars will be powered by the current generation of normally-aspirated V8s. “We are now working 70 per cent on the new engine,” Red Bull supplier Renault Sport F1′s Jean-Francois Caubet told Germany’s Auto Bild.

Renault prepares for the launch of the 2012 season as first pre-season test gets underway at Jerez
Renault Sport F1’s preparations for the 2012 FIA Formula One World Championship stepped up as the first of the three pre-season tests got underway today at the Jerez Circuit, Spain. Each of Renault’s four partners, Red Bull Racing, Williams F1 Team, Caterham F1 Team and Lotus F1 Team, put their new 2012 challengers through their paces for the first time following individual media launches.
Lotus – the former Renault team – will continue to receive the French carmaker’s backing in 2012.
The Renault chassis name has now departed the grid, but Renault remains one of F1′s few engine suppliers. While the French marque’s focus is the championship-winning Red Bull team, the word ‘Renault’ remains prominent on Lotus’ new black and gold E20 car livery.
Team Lotus stays with Red Bull and Renault for 2013
Team Lotus and Renault Sport F1 have confirmed that their existing engine deal is to be extended for a further year to the end of 2013 and the end of the V8 engine formula, with the aim to continue working together when the new engine regulations come into force. Renault Sport F1 and Red Bull Technology will also provide the Anglo-Malaysian squad with KERS systems for the first time for the duration of the agreement.
F1′s major engine manufacturers want the FIA to drop regulations that guarantee customers for their rivals.
Currently, there are four engine makers on the grid — Ferrari, Mercedes, Renault and Cosworth. The latter independent supplier, however, is reportedly fighting for customers for 2012 and beyond, with Williams switching to Renault and rumours HRT could follow Team Lotus in also ending its association with Cosworth.

It was announced not only that Renault engines will continue to power the Red Bull cars through 2017, but that the parties will collaborate “to develop innovative technical solutions” for the new V6 engine of 2014.
Red Bull Racing and Renault Sport F1 are pleased to confirm the extension of their successful partnership for a further five years.
The new fuel efficient 1.6L V6-turbo power unit to be introduced from 2014 will be incorporated in the framework of an enhanced collaboration. Building upon the existing world-championship winning partnership, Renault Sport F1 will continue to supply V8 engines and KERS Motor Generator Units to Red Bull Racing for 2012 and 2013, with the new agreement repositioning the relationship between Red Bull Racing and Renault to a premium technical co-operation.
Williams will not be getting an early taste of its 2012 power plant.
The British team, currently Cosworth powered, will reunite the famous title-winning Williams-Renault alliance next year. But Renault Sport F1 chief Jean-Francois Caubet played down speculation the new combination will get a head-start on the test track.

Engine supplier Renault has confirmed its serious concerns about the dithering over formula one’s engine regulations for 2013. FIA president Jean Todt wants to push ahead with the ‘greener’ four-cylinder turbo route, but has admitted the rules might be delayed due to concerns expressed by Cosworth, Ferrari and Mercedes.
