Round 17: Portuguese Grand Prix – Free Practice Estoril
The Portuguese Grand Prix got underway today amid torrential rain and high winds which disrupted running in the morning’s free practice session, when only Hiroshi Aoyama and Carlos Checa completed any laps. For Checa, who replaces Mika Kallio at the Pramac Racing Team, it was a tough return to MotoGP in such treacherous conditions.

Dani Pedrosa stole home pole glory from countryman Jorge Lorenzo
By 0.285sec during qualifying for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez, hampered by handling problems in winter testing and then the opening round at Qatar, where he finished just seventh, Pedrosa was keen to play down his pole and insisted that the ‘shaking’ problems with his Repsol Honda remain.

Arguing the lack of running heavily penalises the premier class’ newcomers, Hiroshi Aoyama has launched an ‘angry’ tirade against what he contends is a lack of thought shown to the 2010 MotoGP rookies – arguing that the limited pre-season testing time is unfair in not allowing newcomers like himself sufficient opportunity to get to grips with their bikes and adequately prepare for the challenge ahead of them.

The 2010 MotoGP grid could well be an all-Ohlins affair after Gresini’s Marco Simoncelli and Hiroshi Aoyama’s Interwetten team both told Crash.net that Wednesday’s Sepang test marked their last outing with Showa suspension.
