Williams is not planning to replace Mark Gillan, the chief operations engineer who was credited with helping the team recover its lost form in 2012.

Gillan left Williams late last year, but at the time the Grove based team did not say if it intended to recruit from elsewhere to fill the vacancy. “You have to remember,” said chief designer Mike Coughlan on Tuesday, “there’s a lot of people moving forward in their careers.”

Wolff to assist team boss Frank Williams

Today it has been announced that Toto Wolff will become an Executive Director of Williams Grand Prix Holdings PLC with immediate effect, stepping up his role within the company from that of Non-Executive Director. In his new role Toto will assist and support Sir Frank Williams in his continuing position as Team Principal.

Williams will not rush into signing a new title sponsor, chairman Adam Parr insists.

The famous British team performed woefully in 2011 and lost its naming backer ATT, yet recently revealed improved turnover and profits. And Parr told Reuters the Grove based team has more than $45 million in the bank.

Adrian Sutil on Monday warned he might walk away from Force India before the team has decided its 2012 driver lineup.

Reports in recent days have suggested team boss Vijay Mallya has already settled on pairing Paul di Resta alongside Nico Hulkenberg next season. That would leave the experienced German Sutil out in the cold, but the 28-year-old has been spotted recently at Williams’ Grove headquarters.
