Caterham’s links with French manufacturer Renault was key to Charles Pic’s Marussia switch.
That is the claim of Olivier Panis, the former grand prix winner who is now deeply involved with the management of countryman Pic’s F1 career. Some raised their eyebrows when Pic, 22, agreed to switch from Marussia to Caterham – both similarly-matched backmarker teams – for the 2013 season.

Michael Schumacher is in no hurry to decide what to do next, as he faces returning to retirement in 2013.
The great German claims he turned down the offer of a two-year Mercedes contract extension in order to return “home” to his wife and children in Switzerland. “For me, there is nothing better than being at home. For me this means freedom, and I want to enjoy that again soon,” he told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.
Red Bull is confident it has got to the bottom of its recent alternator problems.
The team has had several problems with the Magneti Marelli units supplied by engine partner Renault in 2012. But Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport says Renault recently reverted to a 2011-specification alternator that helped Sebastian Vettel to reliably win the last Suzuka and Singapore grands prix.
