Half of the season has passed and Romain Grosjean is leading in the drivers’ standings again, but only just. Giedo van der Garde kept calm in the pressure cooker environment of this afternoon’s qualifying session in Monaco, pushing at the perfect time to take advantage of his rival’s errors to claim pole position, finishing the session ahead of Sam Bird and Jules Bianchi. The Dutchman’s best time of 1:21.781, set with just one minute remaining in the eventful session, took pole by less than a tenth.

Romain Grosjean got his weekend under way in fine style by claiming the fastest lap in this morning’s free practice session in Monaco, leading for almost the entire session from Dani Clos and local hero Stefano Coletti.
What a difference a race weekend makes…
The GP2 field was ruled by Romain Grosjean after Istanbul, but it was Giedo van der Garde who took the lead of the Series after a strong Barcelona round which saw the Dutchman start from pole position and finish second in the feature race. His squad, Barwa Addax, is still the “team to beat” with Charles Pic triumphing at Circuit de Catalunya in the feature race, mastering the tricks of strategy and tyre degradation.
