Racing Engineering is pleased to announce that their drivers for the 2013 GP2 Series will be Fabio Leimer and Julián Leal.
The 23 year-old Swiss Fabio Leimer has come up through Formula BMW, Formula Renault and International Formula Master racing and he already has plenty of GP2 experience having made his debut in the 2009–10 GP2 Asia Series.

Rounds at Pergusa, Sentul to highlight 2012 finale alongside Vallelunga
The series’ debut at an additional Italian venue, located in Sicily, has been postponed after being originally scheduled for mid September. As a consequence, the 2012 finale at Sentul has been pushed forward to the November 25 weekend.

Racing Engineering is pleased to announce that Nathanaël Berthon will be joining them to compete in the 2012 GP2 Series alongside Fabio Leimer. 22 year old Berthon began his racing career in karts before moving to single-seaters in 2008 when he competed in the Formula Renault 2.0 Series. In 2009 the young Frenchman graduated to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series taking his first win in the category at Magny Cours.

Caterham Racing is pleased to announce Giedo van der Garde and Rodolfo Gonzalez will join forces with the team this year for the much anticipated 2012 GP2 championship. Giedo Van der Garde, who tested for Caterham F1 Team in Jerez earlier this month, had his first taste of Formula One in 2007 when he was test driver for Spyker F1.

Lotus confirms Grosjean as Raikkonen’s teammate
Lotus Renault GP and TOTAL are delighted to announce that Romain Grosjean will race alongside 2007 world champion Kimi Räikkönen next season. The two companies are also pleased to confirm that they have renewed their sponsorship agreement for another year.

Two days of test in Jerez
Although the 2011 Series finished two weeks ago at Monza, the GP2 teams are not resting and they will all be meeting again at the Spanish track of Jerez on the 28th and 29th of this month for an official test session to give the teams an opportunity to test new and up-and-coming drivers.

He is about to start his World Series campaign. However, before the championship kicks off this weekend, the young French driver is looking back on to his participation in GP2 with the Spanish Racing Engineering team.

San Marino track to host final round on March 18, 19 and 20
Imola will host the final round of the 2011 GP2 Asia Series on March 18, 19 and 20. This will mark the return of the Series to the San Marino track since 2006 where Gianmaria Bruni and Ernesto Viso respectively triumphed for Trident Racing and Racing Engineering. This is also where the GP2 Series held its first ever race weekend on April 23-24 2005 with Heikki Kovalainen winning the feature race for Arden International and Adam Carroll snatching victory in the sprint race for Super Nova Racing.

GP2 Asia series calendar problem
It was announced Thursday that the GP2 Asia round 2 in Bahrain has been cancelled due to the current political situation in the small island state. This will give the GP2 Asia series a serious problem since the calendar only contain 3 rounds (6 races) and since the final round is also in Bahrain the organizers has to come up with a solution rather quickly.

Following the current events in Bahrain, at the request of the Bahrain Motorsport Federation, it has been decided that the remainder of the meeting which was supposed to take place this week at Bahrain International Circuit is cancelled due to force majeure.

Today’s track activity has been postponed until tomorrow
The second round of the 2011 GP2 Asia Series was to open today at Bahrain International Circuit with practice session starting at 11am local time. However, due to the current local events, the medical staff normally stationed at the circuit has been temporary called to the city’s hospitals in case of an emergency.

Following an eventful opener in Abu Dhabi last weekend, the 2011 GP2 Asia Series resumes this week for Round 2 at Bahrain International Circuit on the 5.412 km layout. The teams packed up quickly after the second race at Yas Marina Circuit to be ready for more action in Sakhir, with the practice session starting this Thursday at 11am.

Eric Boullier has for the first time named Pedro de la Rosa as a potential replacement for Renault’s injured regular Robert Kubica. Another 2010 Sauber driver Nick Heidfeld, however, is in pole position for the R31 seat and will test the black and gold car this weekend.

Scuderia Coloni driver quickest in Abu Dhabi in GP2 Asia Series pre-season tests
A second two-day testing session began this Sunday at the Yas Marina Circuit but on a shortened track configuration of 4.730 kms that will also be the configuration for the fourth GP2 Asia Series season’s opening round next Thursday. And with the opening round just around the corner, today’s focus for most of the field was on race simulations and finding the right set up for this new layout.

Today marked the beginning of GP2 Asia Series pre-season testing at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi with all thirteen teams – including newcomers Carlin and Team AirAsia. The twenty-six drivers had their first taste of the new GP2/11 car – the third generation machine since the Series’ inception- and of the Pirelli tires.

The Marussia F1 Team has strengthened its Young Driver Programme with the announcement today that it will contend the GP2 Series in 2012 with Carlin. The team will be entered as the Marussia Carlin GP2 Team.
