Tagliani to drive in Montreal in the NASCAR Nationwide NAPA 200

Turner Motorsports will field the No. 30 Chevrolet with driver Alex Tagliani for the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal on August 18, 2012. Tagliani, a hometown favorite in Montreal, will compete on the circuit he knows well after narrowly finishing second in an epic battle to the finish during last year’s event. He hopes to better that result in 2012.

Jacques Villeneuve has prefaced this weekend’s Canadian grand prix by admitting he is no big fan of today’s formula one.
The 1997 world champion will be attending this weekend’s race, held in Montreal at the circuit named in honour of his late father. Race organisers intend to mark the 30th anniversary of legendary Gilles Villeneuve’s death. “There’s something planned, but I would like to keep it a surprise,” promoter Francois Dumontier told the Montreal Gazette.

Saturday night in Toronto

Following his participation as honorary flagman at the NAPA 100 last summer, held at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Ile Notre-Dame, now Richard “Dick” Foley will be inducted into the “Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame” next Saturday in Toronto along with other Canadians and Michael Andretti ( in international category). The 18th edition of the CMHOF gala is expected to be attended by over 300 guests.

Exactly one month from today, it will be the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Gilles Villeneuve. Lime Rock Park’s annual Labor Day weekend vintage racing event will feature for the first time a special Formula 1 race group. Historic Grand Prix (HGP), a vintage racing organization that showcases the spectacular 3-litre era of F1 – the cars from 1966 through 1983 – will race both Saturday and Monday as part of Lime Rock Park Historic Festival 30, Friday, Aug. 31 through Monday, Sept. 3.

Sebastien Buemi is not getting excited despite preparing to clock up a career milestone this weekend.

Blick newspaper points out that the 22-year-old Swiss, who debuted for his current team Toro Rosso as a teenager in 2009, will contest his fiftieth consecutive grand prix in Singapore. He will therefore draw level with Luca Badoer and move ahead of the career tallies of predecessors including Christian Klien and Derek Daly, and even race winner Jean-Pierre Jabouille as well as Mike Hailwood.
