Last weekend’s Superstars round at Vallelunga has been a spectacular one for the series and provided a record-high 33.000 fans with plenty of excitement. Cars from seven different manufacturers lined-up on-track and a new racing star, Giancarlo Fisichella, made his championship debut at the venue.

Italian-based racer ready to battle for the podium at Vallelunga
While the challenge of the year in Vallelunga will involve Giancarlo Fisichella (who will be making his SUPERSTARS debut aboard a Swiss Team-prepared Maserati Quattroporte) and Championship leader Vitantonio Liuzzi, fielded by CAAL Racing on a Mercedes C63 AMG, another great contender for the 2012 title will join them in a sensational showdown. Running just 22 points off Liuzzi’s series lead, Thomas Biagi is set to try and go for the lead back in Italy.

Giancarlo Fisichella set for Superstars debut on the 7th of october at Vallelunga, aboard a Maserati Quattroporte
A new challenge is set for some great former Formula One Champions. The upcoming Round 7 of the 2012 Superstars International Series at Vallelunga will welcome Giancarlo Fisichella, a veteran of 231 starts in the top open-wheel competition and currently lined-up as Ferrari factory driver in GT racing. He will be driving a Maserati Quattroporte fielded by Maserati Corse’s Swiss Team.

Ferrari was a Le Mans winner at the weekend, but so too was Williams.
In the top GT category of the fabled 24 hour race, former grand prix winner Giancarlo Fisichella was one of the drivers of the winning Ferrari 458 Italia. But British F1 team Williams has also pointed out that it was a part of Audi’s overall victory in the top prototype class, LMP1.

The Audi R18 e-tron quattro, supported by Williams Hybrid Power’s (WHP) innovative electric flywheel technology, has won the 80th running of the 24 hours of Le Mans and in the process made history as the first hybrid powered vehicle to finish on the podium.

Luca di Montezemolo has hailed Ferrari’s victory at Le Mans.
The premier prototype class was dominated by the German marque Audi, but on the top of the podium for the leading GT category – GTE-PRO – was a Ferrari 458 Italia.

More than 25 drivers with formula one experience will be on the grid at this weekend’s 80th running of the fabled 24 hour Le Mans race.
Near the front, in the premier LMP1 prototype class, will be Allan McNish and Marc Gene, driving for Audi. Scot McNish raced in F1 with Toyota in 2002, while Gene drove for Minardi and is still a Ferrari test driver. Toyota has since left F1 and for 2012 has entered Le Mans, and the Japanese marque’s number 8 entry is a grand prix-superteam featuring Anthony Davidson (Super Aguri), Sebastien Buemi (Toro Rosso) and one-off 1999 Minardi driver Stephane Sarrazin.

It is often said that a Formula One car is a work of art in itself.
But in the case of Force India’s Art Car, those words have never been more true. The Silverstone-based squad has teamed up with renowned motorsport artist, Dexter Brown, to use one of its cars as the canvas for his latest creation. The end result is the first Formula One Art Car painted by hand, which will be auctioned off to raise funds for charity later this year.

Heikki Kovalainen has decided against teaming up with Michael Schumacher’s former fitness guru.
The Finn has been looking for a new trainer after splitting with regular physio Petri Lehikoinen. Reports in March said Schumacher, who worked with the Indian at Ferrari for years, recommended Balbir Singh.

Turun Sanomat newspaper reports that the Lotus driver has split with his physiotherapist Petri Lehikoinen. The report said Schumacher proposed that Kovalainen start working with Indian Balbir Singh instead, whose last job in F1 was alongside Giancarlo Fisichella at Force India.

Vitantonio Liuzzi is looking to the future this week rather than back at a stop-start formula one career so far. After being ousted by Force India despite having a 2011 contract, the 29-year-old Italian will complete the grid this season after signing a new deal with HRT just over a fortnight before the season opener.
