Bernie Ecclestone has not given up on F1′s scheduled return to the Nurburgring in 2013.
The financially-embattled venue is scheduled to host the July race, but it is also possible Hockenheim could step in at the last minute. “I am doing my best to make sure we do not lose formula one in Germany,” Ecclestone, 82, is quoted by the Allgemeine Zeitung.

A decision about where next year’s German grand prix will take place is imminent, according to the SID news agency.
The Nurburgring is provisionally scheduled to host the country’s 2013 race, but amid the venue’s well-documented financial problems, it is possible Hockenheim will be asked to step in as a replacement.

After the opening two free practice sessions of the German Grand Prix, it is San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Marco Simoncelli who sits at the top of the timesheets just 0.095seconds ahead of Jorge Lorenzo as the pair traded the top spot for much of the afternoon’s 45 minutes of track time. Simoncelli recorded his best time on his final lap of the session using the softer front and rear slicks.

Ferrari argued on Wednesday that Felipe Massa decided to let Fernando Alonso pass him for the race lead at Hockenheim because the Brazilian was angry. As was rumoured before the World Motor Sport Council’s disciplinary sitting in Paris, the Maranello based team rejected the charge that it imposed an illegal team order that deprived Massa of the German GP victory.

61,000 tickets have been purchased so far
Demand for tickets for the German grand prix subsided along with the hype about Michael Schumacher’s return. Hockenheim chief Georg Seiler told Welt newspaper that the announcement of the seven time world champion’s return to formula one led to a surge in demand for tickets.

July’s German grand prix is not yet sold out, despite the Hockenheim race being held for the first time in two years. Moreover, Michael Schumacher has made his return from three years of retirement, while there are five other German drivers on the 2010 grid.

Yet another opportunity for the future of Hockenheim’s formula one race to be clarified has passed. The state premier Gunther Oettinger recently explained that the government factions would have a decision about funds for the track, scheduled to host the German GP next year, by 29 September (Tuesday).

After a long period of uncertainty, Germany will continue to be represented on the formula one calendar. With the Nurburgring not wanting to step in and host the country’s event every season, it was feared that Hockenheim’s reluctance to absorb annual losses could result in Germany not appearing on the 2010 schedule.

Two days on, are you still basking in the glow of what you’ve done?
Absolutely. It was a very special day. Personally, for me it was very nice but the fact that the team also got another one-two seems to have got ignored, but that was also very important. We’ve made the most out of the last couple of races, in which we couldn’t have done better. I’d had two second places, so I knew the momentum was with me and now I’ve got the win. It’s just great to finally get the victory. On Saturday night, after taking pole you said, “now we’ll try and get this monkey off my back.”
Nurburgring boss Walter Kafitz has once again ruled out stepping in to replace Hockenheim should the latter German venue drop off the 2010 formula one calendar.
Even after having to serve a drive-through penalty, Mark Webber dominated the German grand prix, becoming the first Australian in 28 years to win a formula one race.
A damp track and ominous low clouds are hanging over the Nurburgring in the approach to the German grand prix. 
The weather could again play into Red Bull’s hands this weekend as its drivers try to close the points gap on championship leaders Brawn.
