Long-time McLaren test driver Gary Paffett says Lewis Hamilton’s decision to switch to Mercedes is puzzling.
Throughout Briton Hamilton’s six-year racing tenure with McLaren, countryman Paffett, now 31, has split his DTM career with his F1 testing role. He said at the Autosport International show in Birmingham that he does not understand why Hamilton would swap McLaren for Mercedes.

The sound of F1 engines in Abu Dhabi will resume on Tuesday.
Barely a day after Kimi Raikkonen won Sunday’s thrilling grand prix at Yas Marina, the track will return to life on Tuesday when the final three day ‘young driver test’ begins. Six teams have already run their young driver days this year, so just Red Bull, McLaren, Lotus, Sauber, Toro Rosso and Caterham have stayed behind in Abu Dhabi for the session.

Schumacher and Green claim victory in Munich
The DTM provided an extraordinary motoring show in Munich’s Olympiastadion on Saturday. In an action-packed relay competition of the three manufacturers Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, Ralf Schumacher and Norisring winner Jamie Green with the DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé beat two times’ DTM champion Timo Scheider and Adrien Tambay with the Audi A5 DTM in a very close final.

Like Ferrari, Red Bull is another team looking keenly ahead to this week’s test at Mugello.
“Not only do we have many new parts in the luggage,” promised team advisor Dr Helmut Marko, according to Auto Motor und Sport on Monday. “For the first time in a long time, we are also going to give much more attention to the car setup. There are still gaps in our understanding,” he said, a week after Sebastian Vettel’s breakthrough first win of 2012 in Bahrain.

Jenson Button has admitted he sees no point to changing McLaren’s Mugello test programme next week.
After the British team struggled for pace on Pirelli’s complex tyres last weekend in Bahrain, Button’s teammate Hamilton admitted he wanted to test at Mugello. The in-season test in Italy is F1′s first for years, but McLaren had already announced that only test drivers Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey would be in action.

Lewis Hamilton is rethinking McLaren’s scheduled approach to the rare and crucial in-season test at Mugello next week.
The British team announced last week that both Hamilton and his teammate Jenson Button would sit out Mugello, so that testers Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey can run over the three-day session instead.

Like Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey, Magnussen will also work in McLaren’s state-of-the-art simulator.
In 1995, Denmark’s Jan Magnussen – also a former McLaren test driver – made his formula one race debut with a one-off McLaren seat. He moved on to contest 24 grands prix with Stewart until he was stepped down for poor performances in 1998.

Team test driver Gary Paffett has admitted McLaren is hoping Lewis Hamilton has “sorted himself out” after a tumultuous 2011.
F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone told Austria’s Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper that the fact Jenson Button beat the 2008 world champion was the “biggest surprise” of last year’s world championship.
