The third edition of the Team Canada Scholarship will grow to include two young Canadian drivers.
The focus will continue to be the world renown Formula Ford Festival held at Brands Hatch, England in late October. After a very successful debut in 2011 with the first Canadian on pole for the final and leading the early laps, the program continued in 2012 and once again showcased the talent that Canada has in the junior formula car ranks.

Davies won after trading the lead back and forth with teammate Koykka
Shae Davies continued to impress in his American debut, winning on Sunday at Thunderbolt to complete a sweep of two F1600 Formula F Championship Series races in the No. 9 Spectrum/Honda combination for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing.

Completing the podium were Colin Thompson in a Swift/Honda and Jeremy Grenier in a Citation/Honda.
In his first ever F1600 Formula F Championship Series start, Australian Shae Davies recovered from dropping back on lap one to pick through the field, and then inherited the lead for his first win on U.S. soil driving the No. 9 Spectrum/Honda for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing.

New-comer Davies is a factory driver for Spectrum in Australia
At the end of a scorching day in New Jersey with temperatures flirting with the triple digits, Australia’s Shae Davies led the final F1600 Formula F Championship Series practice session at New Jersey Motorsport Park’s Thunderbolt course with a lap of 1:22.122. Davies, in his first F1600 Series start, is contesting rounds five and six of the 2012 season in the No. 9 Spectrum/Honda for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing.

Garett Grist continues his winning ways taking wins at both Mosport and Mont Tremblant
“Formula Ford rookie nets second win on the season along with sixth podium finish to keep his points chase hopes alive”. Garett Grist, a member of the Sofina Foods Driver Development Program, returned to Ontario Formula Ford Challenge action this past weekend and secured his first win at Mosport International Raceway having been second on multiple occasions. The 16-year-old racer missed the last round of OFFC action as the Britain West Motorsport team headed to the GP3R for the weekend of racing.

“Newly crowned Can Am Cup winning team head to only visit to Shannonville on the 2011 Ontario Formula Ford Championship schedule”. Britain West Motorsport, Canada’s leading Formula Ford competition group, will take three cars to the tight confines of Shannonville Race Park for rounds five and six of the Ontario Formula Ford Championship.

“Ontario driver heads to Canadian Grand Prix with a special helmet designed by patients at SickKids in Toronto”. Garett Grist, a member of the Sofina Foods Driver Development Program, will race with a purpose this weekend at the Canadian Grand Prix as he wears a special helmet designed by many of the children currently receiving care at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto. All the kids had a chance to draw what they wanted to see on a race helmet using templates provided by the hospital staff.

Britain West Motorsport, Canada’s leading Formula Ford competition group, wrapped up a successful opening weekend of their 2011 campaign. Running in the British Empire Motor Club 61st Annual Spring Trophy Race at the famous Mosport International Raceway, the weekend also marked the opening two rounds of the Ontario Formula Ford Championship.

McCaughan grabs Sportsmanship
Final day of racing action sees Wheeler take Rotax Senior Max title and final invite to Team Canada as McCaughan grabs Sportsmanship Award. The Western Canadian Challenge (WCC) continued to be blessed with great racing and fantastic weather. The summer prairie sun was hot all day as temperatures neared the 30-degree Celsius mark by mid afternoon under clear blue skies.

This year Team Canada is composed of four drivers in the Rotax Max junior class
They are Garett Grist, Canadian champion, Steven Szigeti, Canadian vice-champion, Bryce Choquer, Western Challenge Series champion and a last minute addition, Phillip Orcic, squeezed in after the winner of the Gatorz – Challenge of the Americas had to resign.
The flights are booked, hotel rooms reserved, rental car arranged, and all the details taken care of for the second trip to the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch.
Coming off one of the most dominant seasons in Canadian karting, Garett Grist, the 2009 ASN Canada FIA Canadian National Junior Rotax Champion, is making several changes to get ready for the 2010 season.
