Jari Ketomaa made history today when he won the first FIA European Rally Championship event to take place in Latvia. The Finn’s success on Rally Liepāja-Ventspils followed three days of thrilling high-speed competition on ice and snow-coated roads between the two Baltic cities.

Jari Ketomaa has reversed an overnight deficit of 6.4 seconds to lead Rally Liepāja-Ventspils by 12.1s following a day of high-speed FIA European Rally Championship action in the ice and snow of Latvia.

The new-look FIA European Rally Championship’s first visit to Latvia for Rally Liepāja-Ventspils is already producing serious competition in abundance with a mere 12.1s covering the top three drivers after Friday’s opening trio of ice-coated stages.

“It should be a relax day,” said Ferrari’s Spaniard Alonso on Facebook, “but change (of) plan, simulator session now.” Alonso finished second in Abu Dhabi, reducing his points deficit to Red Bull’s dominant title leader Sebastian Vettel to 10 points, with just Austin and Brazil now to go. “Alonso can still win,” former F1 driver Patrick Tambay told France’s RMC Sport.
