Sam Bird: “Who wins Auto GP can win anywhere else”
Romain Grosjean will start from pole in today’s Auto GP Race 1 in Monza. The Frenchman from DAMS managed to put the whole group behind him with a great lap (1’36”171), closing with an half second gap on the second placed rival. Doing this he also clinched the pole extra point, putting another little brick on his championship lead.

The fight between the Auto GP title contenders has already started
In the second Free Practice session the three major rivals for the drivers’ crown took three of the four top spots. The best time was posted by Romain Grosjean: the championship leader wasted his last lap with a mistake at the first chicane but despite this he was able to keep the others at bay thanks to a 1’38”078 posted the lap before.

Giorgio Pantano was the quickest in the first Free Practice session in Monza.
The track was wet due to rain falling from the early morning and the Italian driver, fielded by the debuting Ombra Racing, immediately got the right feeling: he was often the fastest in the first 30 minutes, and he got a good lap also in the final part of the session, when the rain stopped and the track conditions improved.

Auto GP is ready for a thrilling championship finale in Monza.
After five events and ten races the maths are keeping six drivers in contention for the title. With 19 points up for grabs in the Italian weekend, the list of possible winners goes from Romain Grosjean, Series leader with 42 points, to Carlos Iaconelli, in sixth place 18 points adrift.

Great win for Julian Leal in the first Auto GP race on the Navarra circuit.
The Colombian driver, who started from pole position, was perfect throughout the race, getting a perfect start first and then boasting some very quick laps, building an immediate gap on the competition. Only Edoardo Piscopo was able to follow him closely, around 1” adrift, and from lap 9 the Italian even managed to close the gap, arriving right on Leal’s tail.

Navarra qualifying report
First Auto GP pole position for Julian Leal, at the end of a very exciting session in which a red flag, caused by Stefano Bizzarri ending in the gravel, did send the drivers back on track with just 3 minutes to improve on a track that was drying quickly after a light rain drizzle.

Charouz-Gravity Racing on top
Romain Grosjean was again the fastest driver of the Auto GP field in Navarra, topping the sheets of the afternoon Free Practice: the DAMS driver got under the 1’29 mark with a 1’28”850. Despite a strong wind blowing against the cars on the main straight, everybody managed to improve their laps, lapping about 1” better.

New Navarra-Los Arcos track
In one week Auto GP will start its engines again after the summer break, ready to race on the new Navarra-Los Arcos track. So, besides the fight for the championship lead now in the hands of Edoardo Piscopo, a lot of interest will be on the new circuit, completed in the first months of 2010 and unveiled last June with a big event gathering more that 30.000 people on the grandstands.

Duncan Tappy definitely is among the Auto GP title contenders.
With a very good weekend in Magny-Cours, worth a 2nd place in Race 1 and a 4th place in the second race, he climbed to P3 in the overall standings, 8 points adrift from series leader Piscopo. And with 2 full events to go the gap is far from overwhelming…

Auto GP is really shining in the Castrol Driver Rankings
The renowned classification edited by the British magazine Autosport allots points to every driver week after week considering their results and the level of the championships they are contesting, and the Auto GP drivers revealed to be the best placed among the feeder series below GP2. The best of them even managed to overcome some F.1 drivers.

Call him “Mister Race Two”
Carlos Iaconelli won the Auto GP short race also in Magny-Cours, exactly as he did in Imola and Spa. Starting from pole position, Iaconelli had to keep at bay a charging Jan Charouz in the first laps, and then extended his lead creating a 1”5 gap that he managed to keep until the checkered flag, taking another six points: thanks to this he is now third in the championship, tied on points with Duncan Tappy and Jan Charouz.
In 2011 the 550 bhp Auto GP cars will thunder through the streets of Bucharest, spreading the scream of their V8 engines among the Romanian city buildings.
