New teams are ready to make their way to Auto GP

Team Ghinzani, a major player in the national and international Formula 3 championships with a strong heritage in Formula 3000 racing, will be testing the new Auto GP racecar at Magione. The Bergamo-based team, managed by former F.1 driver Piercarlo Ghinzani, turned their first laps in the series in last December’s test and is ready to get back running with a young driver from their developmental project, Robert Visoiu.

The new Auto GP car successfully completed its scheduled 2-day shakedown at Vallelunga.

The brand-new racer marks the start of a revolutionary era for the series and showed to have speed and reliability in the hands of Ibiza Racing Team. The Italian-based operation announced their entry just one month ago and they were off to a flying start at Vallelunga, with nice weather, clear skies and a temperature of 13° C. The Auto GP technicians focused on set-up development with Giuseppe Cipriani behind the wheel.

Reigning Auto GP Champion Adrian Quaife-Hobbs got some excellent news this week.

The British racer, who cruised to title last season with the Super Nova Team, will be making his GP2 debut in the series’ first 2013 test at Jerez de la Frontera. After having left a strong impression in the last Auto GP session of 2012, Adrian reached a full-season agreement with MP Motorsport to partner another Auto GP graduate, Daniel De Jong, in this season’s GP2 competition.

A new and talented prospect is set to join the upcoming Auto GP season.

The championship, promoted by Enzo Coloni, is welcoming the promising Dutchman Meindert Van Buuren, who will be joining MP Motorsport. A 18-year-old driver, Van Buuren made his open-wheel debut in 2011 by lining-up in the F.Renault 2.0 NEC and in the Eurocup F.Renault 2.0, where he scored interesting results straight away.

Many teams have started their preparation for the 2013 Auto GP season and today, February the 15th, 2013, two of them went on-track at Adria with their already-announced drivers in an effort to get ready for the start of the season, set for the 23rd and 24th of March at Monza.

A late update made the 2013 Auto GP schedule final today with a venue change.

The championship, promoted and managed by Enzo Coloni, replaced Moscow Raceway, which was still to be confirmed, with a round at Silverstone set for the same date, the 9th of June, on one of the most renowned F1 track in business. The switch was aimed at preventing the team from facing an expensive trip to Russia.

Alongside its internationally-renowned teams, the Auto GP championship has always enjoyed welcoming new players in motor racing.

One of them, Team MLR71, is about to enter their second season: the Italian-based squad, owned by Michele La Rosa, made their Auto GP debut in 2012 with the goal of turning a personal passion into a fully professional effort.

The start of the 2013 Auto GP season brought some fresh news for the open-wheel series managed by Enzo Coloni.

After the recently-announced deals for Kimiya Sato, Riccardo Agostini and Andrea Roda, the championship is poised to deliver the latest photos of its 2013 racecar, an evolution of the design tested on-track last December at Barcelona.
