Vodafone McLaren Mercedes launched its 2013 Formula 1 challenger and kicked off a year of 50th anniversary celebrations with a spectacular parade of classic racing cars at the McLaren Technology Centre this morning.

Canadian Gianmarco Raimondo will be in the Spanish team’s cars
Just five weeks after the last race of the 2012 GP2 Series all the teams are back in action in Barcelona for the first of the two annual post-season tests. Racing Engineering will be giving four drivers the opportunity to drive their cars on the 4.655 km Spanish circuit that is a traditional venue for out of season testing. On Tuesday the 30th of October the Brazilian André Negrão and Canadian Gianmarco Raimondo will be in the Spanish team’s cars and on the following day, Wednesday the 31st, it will be the turn of Dutchman Nigel Melker and Argentinian Facundo Regalia.

Sebastian Vettel is the outright favourite, but Red Bull’s rivals are also in the running for spoils in 2012.
That is the claim of Brazilian legend and two-time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi. “It seems that Sebastian Vettel will be the guy to beat again, since the strong Red Bull project counts on Adrian Newey, who is a genius,” the 65-year-old is quoted as saying by Globo.

Huge presence of Formula 1 aces in Felipe Massa’s promoted race in Brazil
Felipe Massa’s end of the year promoted karting event in Brazil has attracted a higher than ever number of his fellow Formula 1 mates. According to the provisional entry list released early this week, Adrian Sutil, Pastor Maldonado, Rubens Barrichello, Bruno Senna, Jaime Alguersuari and Vitantonio Liuzzi will attend the International Challenge of Go-Kart Champs on December 2-4 at Arena Sapiens in Florianópolis.

During his meteoric 2011 season, double champion-elect Sebastian Vettel has quietly climbed the list of all time greats. Before the season began, the young German was 29th on the all-time winner’s list with his ten victories, alongside Gerhard Berger and James Hunt.

Kamui Kobayashi has won the coveted Rookie of the Year Award at the renowned Autosport Awards.
The visitors to the Autosport.com website, which has an audience of 1.5 million motorsport fans every month, voted and considered the Sauber driver’s performance, in what was his first full Formula One season, as outstanding. The 24-year old Japanese was delighted to receive the trophy at the gala event at London’s Grosvenor House hotel on Sunday night.

It will be “difficult” for Sebastian Vettel to defend his title in 2011 because Fernando Alonso is F1′s best driver. That is the view of 63-year-old Brazilian Emerson Fittipaldi, who like Spaniard Alonso is a double world champion.
