Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that F1′s 2013 schedule will feature only 19 rounds.

Until New Jersey’s demise, this year’s calendar was set to have twenty grands prix. Ecclestone, the F1 chief executive, opened up the twentieth slot to a potential new European venue, but he said on Tuesday that he could not now fill it “at this late stage”.

Bernie Ecclestone is tipped to sign up the airline Emirates as a major F1 sponsor on a visit to Dubai on Tuesday.

The Financial Times said the five year deal is worth “about $200m”, making it “one of the biggest” in motor sport. The report said Emirates would join formula one’s clutch of official sponsors, including UBS, Rolex, Tata and LG.

Teams are making preparations just in case the Bahrain grand prix is called off at the last minute.

That is the claim of Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport, reporting that the teams could put their back-up plans into action even as late as the Sunday in China — mere days before they are expected to be at Sakhir.

SVDP Racing the Dubai based racing team have entered the 2012 edition of the Dubai 24hr race where they will be racing their BMW 120d
This will be the teams 3rd 24hr race after competing in the Britcar 24hr race at Silverstone in 2010 and the 2011 edition of the Dubai 24hr race. The team and car finished a creditable 34th overall at Silverstone (the teams 1st ever 24hr race) and 2nd in class in the 2011Dubai 24hr race.

GP2 Asia series calendar problem

It was announced Thursday that the GP2 Asia round 2 in Bahrain has been cancelled due to the current political situation in the small island state. This will give the GP2 Asia series a serious problem since the calendar only contain 3 rounds (6 races) and since the final round is also in Bahrain the organizers has to come up with a solution rather quickly.
