Just a couple of weeks after its successful outing at Donington Park, the Superstars International Series is about to hit the track at another world-renowned venue, the Mugello Circuit. In Scarperia, not too far away from Florence, the Superstars championship will line-up for round four of 2012, while the GTSprint International Series will be back running after Imola for its third round of the year.

The weekend proved sensational thanks to many of the outstanding battles, passes and comebacks that made the Superstars history so far.

Morbidelli, Kristoffersson complete double 1-2 seeps- Herbert, Liuzzi score podium finishes

It’s been a great day for Audi in the British round of the Superstars International Series at Donington Park. The Ingolstadt-based manufacturer scored a sensational double win with Italian Gianni Morbidelli and Swede Johan Kristoffersson. Morbidelli cruised to victory twice in front of his team-mate as the new Audi RS5 racecars proved beyond reach for everybody else on-track. Thanks to his double 2nd place, Kristoffersson managed to extend his championship lead as he now stands with 85 points in front of Biagi (69), Liuzzi (64) and Morbidelli (63)

It’s been a perfect Saturday for Gianni Morbidelli at Donington Park. The Pesaro-based racer, driving an Audi RS5 for Audi Sport Italia, scored an incredible pole position after having dominated in both practice sessions of the third 2012 round of the Superstars International Series.

Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) went over 0.3 seconds faster than the existing track best in the third Superpole run, with a 1 minute 27.716 second lap that gave him his fourth Tissot-Superpole win of 2012. Close behind was his fellow Englishman Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport), the only other rider inside the 1’27 bracket.

Jakub Smrz (Liberty Racing Team Effenbert Ducati) loves Donington Park

And today it loved him right back as he took provisional pole after posting the fastest lap in the opening qualifying session. After the rain flags came out momentarily at the start of the 45-minute session track conditions improved and a flurry of fast times in the last few minutes of qualifying put Jonathan Rea (Honda World Superbike Team) second, Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) third and true home boy Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) fourth. Rea had two falls today, one shortly after the start of this morning’s free session and one at the end of this afternoon’s qualifying run, without injury.
