WSBK riders set for another epic battle at Donington Park
Superstars, GTSprint to line-up top racers, new names. Access to the central grandstand will be free thanks to the free-ticket promotion.
Just a couple of weeks after its successful outing at Donington Park, the Superstars International Series is about to hit the track at another world-renowned venue, the Mugello Circuit. In Scarperia, not too far away from Florence, the Superstars championship will line-up for round four of 2012, while the GTSprint International Series will be back running after Imola for its third round of the year.

Born in 1993 in Singen, Germany, Thomas Schöffler is currently enjoying a good Superstars season. The 18-year-old racer lined-up with German team MTM Motorsport and is currently standing in the championship’s top-10 after three races. His goal is to keep improving and to rebound after a tough weekend at Donington Park.

The cold weather of Donington Park did not stop many British fans from enjoying some great racing action as the world-renowned track hosted the first international outing of the Superstars International Series for the 2012 season. The weekend proved sensational thanks to many of the outstanding battles, passes and comebacks that made the Superstars history so far.
Morbidelli, Kristoffersson complete double 1-2 seeps- Herbert, Liuzzi score podium finishes
It’s been a great day for Audi in the British round of the Superstars International Series at Donington Park. The Ingolstadt-based manufacturer scored a sensational double win with Italian Gianni Morbidelli and Swede Johan Kristoffersson. Morbidelli cruised to victory twice in front of his team-mate as the new Audi RS5 racecars proved beyond reach for everybody else on-track. Thanks to his double 2nd place, Kristoffersson managed to extend his championship lead as he now stands with 85 points in front of Biagi (69), Liuzzi (64) and Morbidelli (63)
Tom Onslow-Cole (Jaguar XFR), Johnny Herbert (Maserati Quattroporte) round out all-British row 2
It’s been a perfect Saturday for Gianni Morbidelli at Donington Park. The Pesaro-based racer, driving an Audi RS5 for Audi Sport Italia, scored an incredible pole position after having dominated in both practice sessions of the third 2012 round of the Superstars International Series.
British Touringcar ace to join tough Superstars competition at Donington Park
A renowned young British ace is ready to join the Superstars International Series at Donington Park this Sunday. 25-year-old BTCC racer Tom Onslow-Cole, who has scored 7 wins in 141 British Touring Car Races, will be making his debut appearance in the series reserved for top class touring cars with 500 hp.

A 48,500 strong crowd saw some astounding race action at Donington in two sun-blessed 23-lap races, which culminated in a moment of history for one of the world’s most important motorcycle manufacturers, some of the best SBK racing ever seen and changes near the top of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship table.

Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) went over 0.3 seconds faster than the existing track best in the third Superpole run, with a 1 minute 27.716 second lap that gave him his fourth Tissot-Superpole win of 2012. Close behind was his fellow Englishman Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport), the only other rider inside the 1’27 bracket.

And today it loved him right back as he took provisional pole after posting the fastest lap in the opening qualifying session. After the rain flags came out momentarily at the start of the 45-minute session track conditions improved and a flurry of fast times in the last few minutes of qualifying put Jonathan Rea (Honda World Superbike Team) second, Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) third and true home boy Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) fourth. Rea had two falls today, one shortly after the start of this morning’s free session and one at the end of this afternoon’s qualifying run, without injury.

The 2012 FIM Superbike World Championship continues its first European leg of races this coming weekend at the Donington Park circuit in the UK, where it all began back in 1988, the year of the very first round of the production-based series. 25 years and 301 rounds further on, the East Midlands track 180 kms north of London is getting ready to offer even more excitement at what will be the fifth of 14 rounds this season and races number 598 and 599 in its history.
2010 champion set to be back on-track after positive 2-race stint for BMW
Thomas Biagi has been one of the most impressive drivers in the 2012 Superstars International Series. After ending up twice in fourth place at Monza, a venue which was not suitable at all for his BMW M3, and scoring a third and a second place at Imola, he’s now ready to battle for the front spots again.
