IRC newcomer Sordo on top after day of drama in Corsica
Dani Sordo will start the final six stages of Giru di Corsica-Tour de Corse on Saturday firmly in contention for a debut victory in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge following a day of high drama on the demanding asphalt roads around Corte in the centre of the picturesque Mediterranean island.

In view of MINI’s intention to register as an official Intercontinental Rally Challenge manufacturer, Eurosport Events, the promoter of the IRC, has sought a waiver to amend its sporting regulations to allow Dani Sordo and Carlos del Barrio to score points in the IRC drivers’ and co-drivers’ classifications respectively on Giru di Corsica-Tour de Corse.

Although the Prodrive-run outfit has yet to officially announce its programme for next season and recently missed the deadline to register as a manufacturer [see separate story - click here], the statement from the Spaniard is great news for the WRC.

Sebastien Loeb has won RallyRACC-Rally de Espana to edge clear of Mikko Hirvonen in the race for the 2011 World Rally Championship crown. Driving a Citroen DS3 WRC, Loeb maintained his overnight advantage for his seventh win in Spain and his fifth of the season alongside co-driver Daniel Elena.

Only 6.3 seconds behind the winning Citroën of Sebastien Ogier
Second for the MINI WRC Team in Rally France-Alsace is a result it is justifiably proud of on only its fourth event of the 2011 season. Dani Sordo (ES) and Carlos del Barrio (ES) took the fight down to the wire with just 6.3secs separating the number 37 MINI John Cooper Works WRC and the Citroen of Sébastien Ogier (FR) at the finish in Strasbourg this afternoon.

Three weeks after clinching this year’s drivers’ World Championship
Adding another victory to his record breaking tally, today’s win was the 61st at World Championship level for the Frenchman and his co-driver Daniel Elena. The pair led the rally from beginning to end, eventually finishing 35.3 seconds ahead of the man in second place, Citroen privateer Petter Solberg.

With a stunning debut win on Rally Japan – the second of his career – in Sapporo, The 26-year-old from France started the final day 5.4 seconds adrift of overnight leader Petter Solberg in third place but moved in front with the fastest time through the first Naekawa stage.

Sebastien Ogier has claimed his first world championship victory
By narrowly defeating Sebastien Loeb on Vodafone Rally de Portugal, The Citroen Junior Team driver started the third and final day with a lead of 21.1 seconds and showed a level of maturity that belied his 26 years to hold firm as Loeb tried in vain to get ahead of his countryman.
Dani Sordo has claimed victory on Giru di Corsica-Tour de Corse, round four of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, following a faultless performance in a MINI John Cooper Works S2000 on his debut in the all-action series.
He just couldn’t. “Tell me!” he shouted. “I need to know.” The story was a familiar one. But the margin was tighter than ever. This time there was just four tenths of a second splitting him from his 60-time world rally-winning team-mate Sebastien Loeb.
