What will 2012 bring?

F2000 Championship Series logoThe seventh F2000 Championship Series season, which starts April 12-15 at VIR, may be the most unpredictable one yet, with a full, one-class, 30-car plus field expected, and a chassis shuffle happening throughout the grid. 2011 Series Champion Remy Audette is off to sports cars, but the men who finished behind him in the points are all expected back, along with a contingent of young aspiring and proven rookies ready for more than four and a half hours of track time in Virginia. Audette fastest in dry and wet (+results)

Season finale at Watkins Glen International

F2000 new logoThirty-three F2000 cars put in a few laps in a dry morning practice session before the skies opened at Watkins Glen International for the rest of the day. Championship leader Remy Audette was quickest in the dry, and will clinch the Championship tomorrow as the green flag drops for race one of the double header season finale weekend on Saturday.

Remy Audette will clinch the Championship when the green flag flies for race one on Saturday, but the race for wins, rookie of the year, and second in points will rage on among a 35-plus car grid as the leaves start to change in the Finger Lakes region of New York.

Livengood rebounds for Lime Rock win

F2000 new logoAfter losing valuable points in the Championship earlier in the day with a DNF at Lime Rock, Chris Livengood bounced back, winning for the second time this year. The sophomore F2000 driver did exactly what he needed to take the fight to the final rounds of the season at Watkins Glen – take points away from Remy Audette, who finished second ahead of Tim Paul.

Audette triumphs at Lime Rock

Audette survived turn one drama 

Remy Audette again narrowly avoided first turn melee and won his fifth race of the 2011 F2000 Championship Series season to jump out to an enormous points lead over Chris Livengood in round 11 of 14. Tim Minor followed in second, putting in the comeback drive of the year, and coming from dead last on the restart. Alegra Motorsports’ Angel Benitez notched his best result of 2011, completing the podium. Craig Clawson and Thomas Schwietz followed.

Double poles for Audette at Lime Rock (+results)

Audette paced all four sessions on Friday, taking two poles

Two F2000 Championship Series qualifying sessions this afternoon for Saturday’s double races at Lime Rock ended with Canadian Remy Audette taking pole in the closing stages for both races with a new track record at 50.043 seconds.

Remy Audette led flag-to-flag, from pole, to win the second F2000 Series race of the weekend at VIRginia International Raceway over rookie Kyle Connery and Tim Minor. Audette was out in front by three tenths

Remy Audette took pole at VIRginia International Raceway, smashing the standing track record by more than half a second, turning in a lap at 1:53.929. The Canadian has so far paced testing and practice throughout the weekend, but battled through a tough qualifying and messy race on Saturday to finish in fourth as he charged through the field in the rain. F2000 new logoA lengthy session stoppage on a slightly damp track awarded Kyle Connery, a rookie driver from the karting ranks, his first ever F2000 pole in his first ever F2000 qualifying session. A badly timed and long black flag period created an interesting grid order, and as the track went green in the closing minutes, Connery suffered a massive crash in his #91 Van Diemen/Zetec. Audette led the way by almost nine tenths.

Remy Audette paced practice at VIRginia International Raceway by nearly nine tenths of a second, putting in a lap at 1:53.949, well under the existing track record set during qualifying last year at 1:54.496.
