Spaniard Carlos Checa has started the ‘Panigale’ era of Ducati in World Superbike by winning the Tissot-Superpole at Phillip Island.
The Ducati Team Alstare managed to take the best out of the new Borgo Panigale superbike by setting an incredible 1’30.234, that means a brand-new Best Lap for the series and the 10th pole position of his career.

Mixed weather played a part in today’s second and final eni FIM Superbike World Championship testing day at Phillip Island.
The 15 riders who got onto the track during the morning session took a steadier approach to the 4445 km circuit compared to yesterday, though they still continued their work on the drying track.

Max Biaggi (Aprilia Racing Team) scored a single podium for third place in race two at the eni FIM Superbike World Championship round in Portugal today, but two strong points scores saw him extend his overall lead as his other championship rivals found trouble. Eugene Laverty (Aprilia Racing Team) won his first race of the 2012 season in the second outing today, which went to all 22-laps duration.

Sykes set a 1 minute 41.415 second lap in Superpole 3 to record his new track best
Tissot-Superpole has almost become the personal property of Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) in 2012 and in Portimao he recorded his eighth win in this competition, which allocates final grid positions for the top 16 qualifiers. His most recent Superpole success before today was at Brno, in July. Tom now has ten career pole positions to his credit, the same as SBK legend Pierfrancesco Chili, placing him equal eighth in the all time rankings.

In near-perfect riding conditions Max Biaggi (Aprilia Racing) set a new track best of 1 minute 53.855 seconds at the Nürburgring to secure his first Tissot-Superpole win of the year and only the fifth of his career. The 2010 world champion was in superb form and set a lap time that not even the 2012 king of Tissot-Superpole, Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team), could beat, despite a couple of attempts.

Carlos Checa and Davide Giugliano from the Althea Racing Ducati team went 1-2 in the first qualifying session at the German round of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship, with Checa enjoying a small but clear four-tenths advantage in his 1 minute 55.307 seconds lap time.

The first qualifying session was held in dry conditions
The Althea Racing Ducati pairing of Davide Giugliano and Carlos Checa led the field in the eni FIM Superbike World Championship first qualifying session at Moscow Raceway with Giugliano setting the best lap so far of 1 minute 35.074 seconds. They each had a trip onto the gravel at one point of the session but ended their first day in the best possible positions in any case.

World Superbike had a high-powered introduction to Russia today with the traditional pre-event press conference for national and international media held in the spectacular rooftop surroundings of the luxury Ritz-Carlton Hotel in central Moscow, literally just a stone’s throw away from Red Square and the Kremlin.

Sykes the top man at home on the opening day
Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) posted the fastest lap of the first qualifying session at Silverstone in 2 minutes 06.115 seconds, heading off Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) in the process. The session was held on a basically dry track, with the fastest lap times just over two seconds from the absolute best.

Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) made a real play for the 2012 eni FIM Superbike World Championship title today by putting in a double win of the highest quality, overcoming Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) in both 20-lap contests at the classically sculpted Brno circuit.

A much delayed finish to the Tissot-Superpole session, due to an oil spill and the time required to clean up the track afterwards, saw Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) take pole for the seventh time this season. His winning lap time of 1 minute 58.010 was a new best lap.

Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) went second quickest
Davide Giugliano (Althea Racing Ducati) improved on his morning time to also head up the first qualifying session at Brno, setting a time of 1 minute 59.452 seconds before rains arrived at an inopportune moment, then falling heavier at the end of the session.

Tissot-Superpole at the eni FIM Superbike World Championship round at Misano
Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) was a clear winner in Tissot-Superpole at the eni FIM Superbike World Championship round at Misano, his fifth such success in 2012 thus far. His quickest lap time of 1 minute 35.375 seconds was the best of the weekend to date, with Sykes over 0.6 seconds faster than the next best rider, Jonathan Rea (Honda World Superbike Team). Sykes now has a career total of seven Superpole wins, putting him level with famous names in SBK racing like Regis Laconi and Noriyuki Haga.

Eni FIM Superbike World Championship
Reigning World Champion Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) and former Misano race winner Jonathan Rea (Honda World Superbike Team) wrestled with the stopwatch at Misano in the first qualifying session of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship, with Checa coming out on top by a slim margin of 0.047 seconds.

On a sunny race day at Miller Motorsports Park the sixth round of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship delivered some great action and two different race winners to the 49,000 strong weekend crowd. In a landmark day for the series, race one saw World Superbike reach its 600th individual race mark.
