Winner of 2012 DTM Drivers’ Championship returns to Montreal for upcoming Auto Show

Bruno Spengler will join BMW Group Canada at this year’s Montreal International Auto Show to help welcome the new premieres, as well as to commerorate his recent DTM Drivers’ Championship. After a nearly 20 year hiatus from DTM, BMW Motorsport returned with great success, thanks in large part to Spengler and his teammates, claiming the drivers’, manufacturers’ and team titles. The 29 year-old Spengler has been active in DTM racing since 2005, and hopes to continue the success he had during the 2012 season.

Bruno Spengler (BMW) will be starting from pole position into the eighth DTM season round at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.

In the fourth qualifying heat, Spengler set the fastest time of 1:20.916 minutes with his BMW M3 DTM. For Spengler, it is the 14th pole position of his DTM career. Gary Paffett (Mercedes-Benz) will be lining up alongside him on the front row of the grid. The Brit came within 0.086 seconds of Spengler’s time.

Mattias Ekstrom cruises to his third DTM win this season in Valencia

A good start, a faultless race and two quick pit stops. The sixth DTM round of the season at the Nürburgring couldn’t have been better for Swede Mattias Ekström. After 49 laps, the Audi driver scored a dominant lights-to-flag victory. For the 2004 and 2007 DTM champion, it was already his 15th race win in the most popular international touring car series.

In head-to-head duels at the 1.192 kilometres long track, the 18 DTM drivers showed the spectators thrilling motorsport action. Mercedes-Benz driver Bruno Spengler made it all the way from the round of the last 16 to the finale and won the decisive battle against Audi driver Edoardo Mortara, who had been unbeaten until then.

Brandenburg’s prime minister Matthias Platzeck presented the new points’ leader with the winner’s trophy.
