The first race of the 2013 American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón will mark the return of two legendary teams to racing in America and a Hollywood star’s debut at one of sports car racing’s toughest tests. Risi Competizione is back to full-time competition in the ALMS’ GT class, Audi will race its R18 e-quattro hybrid prototype for the first time in North America, and Patrick Dempsey and Dempsey Racing embark in a new full-season partnership.

It’s been a great day for Audi at Vallelunga, as the German manufacturer’s Audi RS5 racecars dominated qualifying for round 7 of SUPERSTARS. In the end, the pole went to young Swede Johan Kristoffersson (KMS), while Gianni Morbidelli (Audi Sport Italia) fell just short after having to deal with a suspension issue.

After having reached its half point for 2012, Superstars can draw a really positive balance in terms of on-track competition. The series has experienced a sensational run in the first part of the championship, featuring an unprecedented performance balancing between the cars and drivers taking part in it. Seven drivers scored victories so far, representing five different car brands, while six manufacturers ended up on the podium so far.

Andrea Palma (Ferrari 458 Italia) dominates in GTSprint

The Mercedes C63 AMG driven by Vitantonio Liuzzi, and wearing the manufacturer’s colors of Mercedes-AMG, will take off from the Pole Position tomorrow in Race 1 of the Superstars International Series weekend at the Hungaroring. The Italian former F.1 racer clocked a sensational laptime of 1:52.513 and was followed by the crowd’s home favorite, Norbert Michelisz, who raced the Scuderia Giudici-prepared BMW M3 to an outstanding front row position.

Ferrari was a Le Mans winner at the weekend, but so too was Williams.

In the top GT category of the fabled 24 hour race, former grand prix winner Giancarlo Fisichella was one of the drivers of the winning Ferrari 458 Italia. But British F1 team Williams has also pointed out that it was a part of Audi’s overall victory in the top prototype class, LMP1.

The Audi R18 e-tron quattro, supported by Williams Hybrid Power’s (WHP) innovative electric flywheel technology, has won the 80th running of the 24 hours of Le Mans and in the process made history as the first hybrid powered vehicle to finish on the podium.

The premier prototype class was dominated by the German marque Audi, but on the top of the podium for the leading GT category – GTE-PRO – was a Ferrari 458 Italia.

First qualifying session in the books for race’s 80th running

The 80th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans began in earnest today with the first of three qualifying sessions at the 8.469-mile circuit in the Sarthe region of France. The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón was well represented, with two teams on the provisional pole position in their class.

More than 25 drivers with formula one experience will be on the grid at this weekend’s 80th running of the fabled 24 hour Le Mans race.

Near the front, in the premier LMP1 prototype class, will be Allan McNish and Marc Gene, driving for Audi. Scot McNish raced in F1 with Toyota in 2002, while Gene drove for Minardi and is still a Ferrari test driver. Toyota has since left F1 and for 2012 has entered Le Mans, and the Japanese marque’s number 8 entry is a grand prix-superteam featuring Anthony Davidson (Super Aguri), Sebastien Buemi (Toro Rosso) and one-off 1999 Minardi driver Stephane Sarrazin.

Round of performance balancing announced, a new challenge for Audi

The 2012 Superstars International Series season has been one of the most balanced and spectacular in the history of the sport so far, both in terms of qualifying laptimes and racing excitement. Three different car brands scored wins in the first three rounds and six brands managed to hit the podium.
