Dani Clos insists he is delighted with his new role as HRT tester, despite some seeing him as little more than a ‘pay driver’.
A reporter for Spain’s Diario AS newspaper admitted to the 23-year-old from Barcelona that when he read the news about his Clos’ new role, he surmised that the driver must have some lucrative backers.

Andy Soucek still hopes to make his formula one debut next year, despite splitting with the new British team Virgin. The reigning F2 champion has been Virgin’s third and reserve driver in 2010, but reportedly decided to leave because he was not being given opportunities to actually drive the VR01.

Confirmation that Andy Soucek will be Virgin’s reserve driver in 2010 is expected within days. We reported last week that the 24-year-old Spaniard, who is the reigning F2 champion, is set to sign with the new British team because confirmed reserve driver Alvaro Parente’s sponsorship has fallen through.

Williams JPH1B betters Formula Renault 3.5 pole time in Portimão
The upgraded Williams JPH1B F2 car has enjoyed a hugely impressive track debut during pre-season testing at Spain and Portugal. The car ran for the first time at Barcelona last Thursday, 28 January, and on the first day of the test programme achieved an impressive 1m 35.7sec best lap – which compares remarkably with the pole position time of 1m 39.0 set by Robert Wickens for the first F2 race at Barcelona last year and the 1m 38.0 fastest time for race two qualifying.
The Spaniard was Virgin’s test and reserve driver last year but he left the role complaining that “You don’t even get in the car”.
