Jaime Alguersuari has leapt to Pirelli’s defense, claiming this year’s tyres are actually better than the 2012 range.

Throughout the winter, tales of disintegrating tyres have raised alarm up and down the paddock, with some predicting handfuls of pitstops come Melbourne. Recently, following his native country’s five year absence from the schedule, Magny Cours and Paul Ricard were linked with a possible French grand prix for 2013. “I still read in the press that there are opportunities for 2013,” Prost, who was involved in the talks, is quoted by France’s Sport24.

A list of the best formula one drivers of all time has overlooked Ayrton Senna for a top-three spot, and left out Fernando Alonso completely.

Italy’s Autosprint said Juan Manuel Fangio, the five-time world champion of the 50s, deserves the number one spot. He is listed ahead of runner-up Michael Schumacher, with triple world champion Sir Jackie Stewart also finishing ahead of the late and revered Senna. Jim Clark, Alain Prost, Sir Stirling Moss, Alberto Ascari and Niki Lauda are ranked fifth to ninth respectively, with reigning triple world champion Sebastian Vettel completing the top ten.

Sebastian Vettel has hit back at critics who claim the new triple consecutive world champion is not good at overtaking.

The critics have said the Red Bull driver is good at dominating grands prix from pole position, but usually falters when he needs to do some passing en route to the chequered flag. But German Vettel thinks his races in Abu Dhabi, when he fought through the field from the pitlane to finish on the podium, and in Brazil where he won the title despite a first-lap spin, have proved the critics wrong.

Bernie Ecclestone has named Magny-Cours as the likely venue for a 2013 French grand prix.
Quadruple world champion Alain Prost was in Abu Dhabi last weekend for talks with the F1 chief executive about Paul Ricard’s race bid, and potential investors. But Ecclestone is quoted by Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport: “If we go to France (next year), it will be Magny Cours.”

Paul Ricard has recruited Alain Prost to lead the talks with Bernie Ecclestone about reviving the French grand prix in 2013.

Media sources RMC Sport and L’Equipe said the four-time world champion and former F1 team owner has travelled to Abu Dhabi this weekend, to step up the talks with the F1 chief executive. RMC said Prost’s meeting with Ecclestone is scheduled for Saturday.
