Behind the scenes, hard work is going on for the future of the Formula 3 Euro Series.
The concept for 2012 was presented during the penultimate race weekend of the current season at Valencia in Spain. The most significant change is the planned introduction of the new generation of Formula 3 race cars that will be homologated by motorsport’s global governing body, the FIA, from 2012 for a period of four years.

A return to the formula one grid of French grand prix venue Magny Cours is on the cards for 2012, according to reports. L’Equipe, and the French news agency AFP, said circuit boss Serge Saulnier sounded bullish on Thursday amid recent efforts to reinstate the race after it was dropped after 2008.

Leading figures of the 2012 United States grand prix in Texas will be trackside at Silverstone this weekend. According to the local Austin newspaper Statesman, promoter Tavo Hellmund as well as Texas comptroller Susan Combs will be at the British grand prix.

Sebastien Buemi is on course for a seat with Red Bull in 2012, according to the Swiss newspaper Blick. The head of the energy drinks company’s driver programme, Dr Helmut Marko, was quoted last weekend suggesting that if the 21-year-old youngster does not up his game, he could lose his seat with the junior team Toro Rosso.

Pirelli was last in F1 in 1991.
Italian media sources are reporting that Pirelli will be F1′s sole tyre supplier in 2011 and beyond. Autosprint and Italiaracing say the Milan-based marque has been selected by the teams and F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone to replace the departing control supplier Bridgestone.

A deal was struck for a race to be held in Austin, Texas following weeks of speculation about the potential return of a race in America, F1 commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone announced on Tuesday that the event will take place from 2012 to 2021 on a new purpose-built facility in Austin.

BMW will turn its premier motor racing focus to Germany’s touring car championship DTM in 2012.
After ten years in formula one, the German carmaker ended its grand prix foray at the end of 2009. In a statement on Thursday, BMW said its board has voted to race in DTM from 2012, pending “certain basic requirements” that the series’ governing body ITR must now consider.
