RMCGF – Day 2: practices sessions

First time out on the track for the drivers participating at the 2009 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals

Two practice sessions were scheduled today, including a 20 minute first session to break-in the engines and learn the track. The first session was delayed because of the absence of the doctor who must be part of the medical team. Finally, the sessions started with the help of the American driver Ethan Ringel, whose father is a doctor and was on site.

Our past experience of the RMC Grand Finals told us that fast drivers on the first day are not always the fastest in the last day. Some drivers have home track advantage but after the practice sessions, this advantage normally disappears.

The practice sessions were not timed today but our Canadian drivers appeared to be quick. Tomorrow’s sessions will be timed and will give us a better idea on who is fast and who is not.

In general, Canadian drivers seem satisfied with their working day. We will see tomorrow, with the qualifying sessions at the end of the day, if the drivers will feel pressure.

In our daily video, you can listen to comments from Phillip Orcic, Junior driver, and Scott Campbell, DD2 driver, on there first practice sessions. Don’t forget that Scott Campbell raced on this track in January 2004 in the Rotax senior class.
