Campana nominated for Espoir de l’Année award

Pierre has enjoyed another tremendous season in 2009

Up-and-coming Corsican driver Pierre Campana has been nominated for Echappement magazine’s prestigious “espoir de l’annee” award for the second year running. Pierre has enjoyed another tremendous season in 2009, with performances that have marked him out as an exciting champion of the future.

The 24-year-old finished third in the West European Clio Trophy with just two participations, resulting in victory in Sanremo and second on the Rallye du Var. He was contesting both events for the first time. He also finished third in the French Suzuki Cup with three wins: more than any other driver.

Last year, Pierre shot to fame by finishing third in the Junior World Rally Championship class on France’s round of the WRC: the Tour de Corse.

In his short career to date, Pierre has taken on drivers of the calibre of Sebastien Ogier, Alessandro Bettega, Alex Raschi, Freddy Loix and Robert Kubica. As always though, he is looking forward to his next challenge.

Pierre, who is co-driven by Sabrina de Castelli, commented:

“It’s a huge privilege for me to be nominated for this award, particularly for the second time running. Whatever happens, it’s very gratifying to have our achievements recognised by the rally world in this way. I’d like to thank everyone who has made this wonderful season possible and I look forward to making more progress next year.”

The winner of the “espoir de l’annee award”, which has been claimed in the past by rally greats such as Sebastien Loeb, will be announced in Paris before the end of the year.
