Phil Mills celebrates historic victory
Instead of taking a break after the 2009 WRC season
Petter Solberg’s co-driver Phil Mills has been working flat-out at his rally car preparation business, and this week celebrated his team’s victory on the British historic Roger Albert Clark Rally.
The four-day rally, more commonly known as the R.A.C. follows the route of the British round of the World Rally Championship from the mid-1970s and is one of the most popular events in the British historic rally calendar.
More than 60 crews tackled this year’s event, which started from Yorkshire and went on to include day and night stages in South Scotland, Cumbria and the Kielder forest before finishing in Carlisle on Monday.
Mills’ firm, Viking Motorsport, entered a Mark 2 Ford Escort on the rally, and thanks to the driving talents of Welsh ace Gwyndaf Evans, and his co-driver, the BP Ford Abu Dhabi Team co-ordinator John Millington, Mills’ team took a convincing victory by more than four minutes.
“I’ve always loved rally cars from the 1970s, so working with them is pretty much my dream job when I’m not competing alongside Petter,” Mills told wrc.com
“We had a fantastic time on the R.A.C. and it was the icing on the cake to watch Gwyndaf and John drive one of my cars over the finish ramp in first place.”
