The Stobart VK M-Sport Ford rally team was presented with the final Abu Dhabi ‘Spirit of the Rally’ Award of 2009, in recognition of its fundraising commitment to British servicemen and women through its support for the Help for Heroes charity at Rally GB.

The team’s British driver, Matthew Wilson carried Help for Heroes branding on his Ford Focus throughout the event in order to help garner support for the charity which aims to rehabilitate the injured heroes of Britain’s forces. The team also invited an artist to the Cardiff Service Park over the weekend, to produce a series of paintings of the team’s WRC cars to be auctioned for the charity.

The Spirit of the Rally award, created by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) is presented at each WRC round in recognition of an outstanding feat of leadership, integrity, respect or teamwork.

Ahmed Hussein, Deputy Director General, ADTA, was quick to praise the outstanding charitable efforts of Stobart throughout the rally: “The Stobart team has displayed huge generosity to an important charity, creating a legacy that will be valued by many for years to come. This award is in honour of the team, its sponsor, and those around the world who will benefit from its actionsâ€.

Stobart Group Chief Operating Officer William Stobart who attended Rally GB said: “At Stobart Group we place a lot of emphasis on our corporate social responsibility policy and it’s fantastic that we can link in charitable activities with our world rally programme. We have had a long association, and provided logistic solutions, to the Ministry of Defence and we’re delighted to be putting something positive and helpful.
