ART Grand Prix new team champion in Formula 3 Euro Series

Bianchi defended first place on to his ninth victory of the season

Even as the new champion in the Formula 3 Euro Series, Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix) keeps on winning. At the 4.574 kilometres long Hockenheimring Baden-WĂĽrttemberg, he beat his team-mate Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix) by 7.516 seconds.

Third place on the podium was taken by Jean Karl Vernay (Signature). The first two places of its drivers Bianchi and Bottas allowed ART Grand Prix to wrap up the teams’ title with one race remaining.

Pole-sitter Jules Bianchi defended first place at the start and undisputedly motored on to his ninth victory of the season. Valtteri Bottas got himself in a good position for the decision in the battle for the rookie title by finishing second. His only remaining rival Alexander Sims (MĂĽcke Motorsport) only came sixth and scored five ppoits less than the Finn.

Behind Sims, Marco Wittmann (MĂĽcke Motorsport) crossed the finish line and scored his first points of the year. Dutch driver Henkie Waldschmidt (SG Formula) took the flag in eighth place, scoring the final point of the race. He will be starting from pole position tomorrow.

Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix): “It wasn’t an easy race. My start was not so good, but I was able to take first place. Then I tried to pull a gap over the drivers behind me. Initially, I could also benefit from the battle between Valtteri and Roberto.”

Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix): “I think that I was faster than Roberto. However, I didn’t want to take too many risks overtaking him. After all, the title in the rookie classification is at stake for me. Tomorrow, I only need two points in case Alex Sims should win.”

Jean Karl Vernay (Signature): “Finally, I am back on the podium, after a strain of bad luck, accidents or penalties during the past couple of races. At the start, I managed to gain two places right away. It wasn’t easy against Roberto, but I was able to overtake him. Tomorrow, I want to finish ahead of Mika Mäki and Roberto Merhi as it is my goal to end the season in the top 5.”
