Thrilling rookie and team championship finale

Traditionally, the 4.574-kilometre Hockenheimring Baden-WĂĽrttemberg is the venue of the Formula 3 Euro Series season finale that will be held this weekend.

Track length: 4.574 kilometres
Lap record F3ES: 1:33.701 min / Romain Grosjean 2007
Distance: Sat: 18 laps / Sun: 25 laps
Winners 2008: Nico HĂĽlkenberg / Jules Bianchi

While Frenchman Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix) has secured the drivers’ title early, on the previous race weekend at Dijon-Prenois, the battles for the rookie and team titles were taken down to the season finale. Art Grand Prix holds the team-ranking lead, with Mücke Motorsport following six points behind.

In the rookie ranking, the battle is even closer: here, the two title contenders, Alexander Sims (MĂĽcke Motorsport) and Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix) are tied for points. And at the same time, the two rookies also fight for the third championship position behind Bianchi and Christian Vietoris (MĂĽcke Motorsport).

In addition to these two thrilling battles, the Hockenheim weekend will provide the crowds the appearances of several Euro Series newcomers and returnees. GP2 regular Edoardo Mortara, the Formula 3 Euro Series runner-up in 2008 and winner of a GP2 race this year, will race a Kolles & Heinz Union entered Dallara-Volkswagen.

Nico Monien who finished fifth in the 2009 ATS Formula 3 Cup will contest the season finale for Mücke Motorsport while Carlin Motorsport have signed Italy’s Formula 2 driver Mirko Bortolotti for the Hockenheim weekend and Spaniard Victor Garcia is the Prema Powerteam’s new driver for final race weekend of the season.

Edoardo Mortara (Kolles & Heinz Union): “It’s great to be back and contest another Formula 3 Euro Series race. I’ve got a lot of friends, here, and truly like the Hockenheimring. Nonetheless, the comeback certainly will be anything but easy for me. But I hope that I will be able to quickly accustom to the car and the new team and will secure a good result for Kolles & Heinz Union, myself and Volkswagen.”
