‘Team Ignite’, a team of students from Dame Alice Owen’s School, Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, jumped onto the top step of the podium at today’s F1 in Schools™ UK National Finals, taking the National Champions crown and with it a place at the F1 in Schools World Finals 2012.

Markus Pommer steps up to F2 in 2012
German F3 star eyeing top three finish
21-year-old German Markus Pommer has become the latest driver to announce his participation in the 2012 FIA Formula Two Championship. Pommer graduates to F2 after a successful campaign in German F3 last season with a hat-trick of podium finishes in the final three races on his way to seventh overall. Last year he also impressed during F2 winter testing in Barcelona to go an excellent second fastest on day two – lapping just 0.014s off the leader’s pace.

Young’s determination shines through in Daytona 200 debut

This past weekend Thornbury Ontario’s Ben Young debuted in his first ever Daytona AMA Pro GoPro Daytona Sportbike race during the 71st running of the Daytona 200. Young finished the race with a respectable 20th overall after overcoming engine troubles on Thursday and an electronic glitch that occurred during the first pit stop of the race.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin was the only Canadian on the podium yesterday at the end of the legendary 12 Hours of Sebring’s endurance race. Dumoulin and his Alex Job Racing – WeatherTech teammates placed 2nd in their category, despite spending 8 minutes more than the winning team in the pits.

Ferrari glass ‘half full’ but no improvement yet
The sports daily Marca described the attitude as Alonso “seeing the glass half-full”.
Fernando Alonso kept up a positive outlook on Sunday despite some Italian newspapers describing Ferrari’s situation as a “crisis”. Melbourne qualifying confirmed the famous team’s winter woes, but Spaniard Alonso fared better in the race.

Pundits agree Williams made ‘huge leap’
Despite not collecting a single point in Melbourne, the Williams team will travel from Australia to Malaysia in upbeat mood.
The famous British outfit’s slide from its race and title-winning days hit rock bottom in 2011, scoring just five points all season and only finishing ahead of the three struggling new teams in the constructors’ championship.
