This was Sykes’ fourth career Superpole win
The best possible starting position was taken by Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) for the second round in succession after he set a new track best of 1 minute 46.748 seconds in Superpole 3. This was Sykes’ fourth career Superpole win and the second at Imola, as he took the pre-race prize on the previous model of Ninja ZX-10R here in 2010.

AIM Autosport Team FXDD delighted with car’s performance
The Ferrari 458 Italia GT Grand-Am fielded by AIM Autosport Team FXDD will start from the outside of the front row in tomorrow’s Porsche 250 at Barber Motorsports Park. With a lap of 1m 30.985s, averaging 146.457km/h, Emil Assentato secured the spot with just under three minutes remaining in a 15-minute, late-morning qualifying session.

Eni, the multi-national integrated energy company becomes Title Sponsor as well as Official Supplier
This was announced by eni and Infront Motor Sports today at a press conference in Imola. The first SBK round in Europe marks the start of this partnership, which complements eni’s previous role of technical partner alongside teams, riders and manufacturers. As a consultant to eni, the ISA International Sports Agency brokered the agreement with Infront Sports & Media, the parent company of WorldSBK promoter Infront Motor Sports.

Sirotkin clinches Race 1 win in Valencia
The only driver of the whole grid to start on a set of new medium tyres (all the others were on used softs), Sirotkin made the most of the extra grip he had available to make a great start that allowed him to jump ahead of poleman Adrian Quaife-Hobbs. The brit pushed as much as he could to stay close to his rival, but Sirotkin’s pace in the first laps was impossible to match, and by lap 7 he had already built a gap of more than 4 seconds.

The ACT Late Model Tour held its first ever event on April 26, 1992 when they joined the headlining ACT Pro Stock Tour at Sanair Super Speedway.
For the first time in six years and just the second time in over a decade, the ACT Late Model Tour will return to where it all began, Sanair Super Speedway in St-Pie, Quebec, during the 2012 season. On Saturday, August 11, the ACT Late Model Tour and the Série ACT Castrol will visit the 1.3-kilometer speedway for a 100 lap combination event.

The Superstars weekend started today at Monza with free testing.
Mika Salo (Maserati Quattroporte), Andrea Larini (Mercedes) and Giammaria-Pellegrinelli (Ferrari 430) hit the top of the charts. The International Superstars Series and GTSprint Series went on-track today at Monza for an official round of testing. The first meeting of the two FG GROUP-promoted championship will be kicking-off at the Italian venue tomorrow featuring new stars, returning characters a the same great action.

Adrian Quaife-Hobbs will start from pole tomorrow in the first race of the Auto GP Valencia weekend.
After clinching pole in Monza, the young Brit did the same on the Spanish track after a session that saw him post the fastest lap a first time after 10 minutes and then improve it twice up to a 1’23”480 that nobody could beat. Sergey Sirotkin tried as hard as he could and even managed to post the quickest first sector with two minutes to go, but he stopped the clock on a 1’23”681 that was two tenths shy of pole.

What will 2012 bring?
The seventh F2000 Championship Series season, which starts April 12-15 at VIR, may be the most unpredictable one yet, with a full, one-class, 30-car plus field expected, and a chassis shuffle happening throughout the grid. 2011 Series Champion Remy Audette is off to sports cars, but the men who finished behind him in the points are all expected back, along with a contingent of young aspiring and proven rookies ready for more than four and a half hours of track time in Virginia.

Right at the very end of the day
Jakub Smrz (Liberty Racing Effenbert Ducati) took provisional pole position in the first qualifying session at Imola, right at the very end of the day, displacing the potential Kawasaki 1-2 of Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki Racing Team) and his team-mate Tom Sykes. Smrz’s time of 1 minute 48.146 seconds was only 0.030 faster than Lascorz after a day characterized by extraordinarily close competition.

Add another young aspiring racer to the F1600 field.
John McCusker, son of longtime F2000 veteran Jeff McCusker, will enter the 2012 F1600 Formula F Championship Series in a Van Diemen/Honda. The 16 year old will take over his father’s car, which has been converted to F1600 spec, as Jeff moves onto a RFR in F2000 competition.

Audette Racing Team 2012 program…
The Audette Racing Team will return to competition this season, contesting all rounds of the Canadian Touring Car Championship. While awaiting the build of a brand new car, brothers Mathieu and Rémy Audette will participate in a rotating program for a total of four races each, using the team’s Dimensions Doors/Novatech Acura RSX.

Sergey Sirotkin was quickest in the first Free Practice session of the Valencia Auto GP weekend.
The Russian driver, who was already second in yesterday’s test, showed again how quick he can be leading the field by a full 2 tenths with a 1’24”522. While the times of this first practice don’t tell a lot on the drivers’ potential as everybody was lapping on used tyres with different mileages, Sergey’s achievement is still impressive, especially considering that just a few minutes before he was lapping the track in an F3 car: that’s because Sirotkin is taking part also in the Italian F3 championship, that is part of the support races package in Valencia.

Sauber has revealed it cannot afford to simply jump in and copy Mercedes’ innovative F-duct solution.
The small Swiss team had almost winning race pace in Malaysia last weekend even without the extra straight-line speed that would be provided by a system along the lines of Mercedes’ DRS-complimenting concept.
