Round 12: Indianapolis GP – Race
In particularly tricky conditions because of the high temperature and the new tarmac at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Casey Stoner and the Repsol Honda Team delivered a masterclass in consistency and tyre management to romp to a comfortable victory. It’s the Australian’s seventh of the season and his third in succession, extending his championship lead to 44 points with six races remaining.

Intercontinental Rally Challenge, round 7 of 11
Jan Kopecký has claimed his first victory in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge for more than a year after triumphing on a thrilling Barum Czech Rally Zlín. The ŠKODA Motorsport ace, roared on by approximately 300,000 home fans, beat Freddy Loix by 1.2s, the closest finish in the history of the IRC. Team-mate Juho Hänninen took third to make it a ŠKODA podium lockout.

The surgeons are happy to report that they have been able to complete 100% of their task and did not encounter any complications. They have described the outcome of the operation as “a total success”.

Spaniard takes lead from Zanella as Bortolotti strengthens championship charge
Ramon Pineiro stormed to a third successive victory after winning today’s (Sunday) second FIA Formula Two race at the Red Bull Ring. The young Spaniard took the lead from pole-sitter Christopher Zanella at Turn 2 on the first lap, and in similar style to yesterday, went on to build a comfortable lead to take the chequered flag. Mirko Bortolotti further strengthened his championship charge with a second place while Romanian Mihai Marinescu claimed his second successive podium finish.

Red Bull had serious concerns about tyres before finishing first and second in the Belgian grand prix.
That is the claim of team boss Christian Horner, who asked the FIA for permission prior to the Spa-Francorchamps race for Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber to be allowed to change their qualifying tyres due to blistering damage.

Luca Filippi snatched a second win in the 2011 season at the wheel of the Scuderia Coloni car in an action packed sprint race at Spa-Francorchamps. The Italian who drove flawlessly from P5 on the starting grid was joined by Jules Bianchi and Josef Kral on the podium.

Stunning drive from the young New Zealander as Lotus ART take teams crown
Pole sitter Richie Stanaway drove a brilliant race today to win on his GP3 Series debut weekend. The New Zealander finished 4.007 seconds ahead of his teammate James Calado to lead the second Lotus ART 1-2 of the weekend. The result ensured that Lotus ART sealed the teams’ title for the second season in a row with one round remaining.

Austro-Italian sets quickest lap of the weekend with Zanella just securing second
Mirko Bortolotti secured pole position for today’s (Sunday) second FIA Formula Two race at the Red Bull Ring after setting the fastest lap of the weekend so far. The Austro-Italian set a time of 1:20.536s, 0.3 seconds clear of championship rival Christopher Zanella who put in a last gasp time to go second, despite spinning early in the session. Yesterday’s race winner Ramon Pineiro will start third.

Mercedes is investigating how a rear wheel fell off Michael Schumacher’s car during qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps.
Wearing a special golden helmet to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his F1 debut, the famous German will start the race last because he crashed during his outlap in Q1. “How embarrassing for Mercedes, to destroy his anniversary race because the wheel fell off,” Sky commentator Marc Surer is quoted as saying by Bild newspaper.

To many in F1 circles, Bertrand Gachot is arguably best known for vacating his Jordan seat in 1991 for a then unknown youngster by the name of Michael Schumacher. Franz Tost has confirmed reports that French youngster Jean-Eric Vergne is set to rev up his formula one career with Toro Rosso. It emerged earlier this weekend that the 21-year-old is set to drive the STR6 on Friday mornings once the Renault World Series wraps up in October.

Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund has been named as the likely buyer of the lease of British grand prix venue Silverstone.
The Independent said Qatar Investment Authority – already owning shares in the London Stock Exchange, Volkswagen, Harrods, Miramax and French football club Paris Saint-Germain – is in exclusive talks with owner the British Racing Drivers’ Club.
