Adrian Newey has acknowledged that his Red Bull cars will almost certainly continue to be powered by Renault engines next year. The Austrian team is concerned about its horse power deficit that began amid the so-called ‘engine freeze’, with Mercedes and Ferrari pulling away in that area.

Renault team owner Gerard Lopez insists the Enstone based outfit is in no rush to confirm the identity of Robert Kubica’s teammate for 2011. The big news in F1 this week was team boss Eric Boullier’s claim that 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen, who moved from Ferrari to rallying this year, has enquired about driving for Renault next season.

Olivier Pla and Miguel Amaral finished second
In the LMP2 class in Autosport 1000km of Silverstone at the wheel of the Quifel-ASM Ginetta-Zytek. The pair led the category of the 170-lap race at the end of the third and fourth hours but were ultimately unable to repeat their victory earlier this year at Spa-Francorchamps.

Vettel is now signed up with Red Bull Racing until 2012.
McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh has admitted he is still interested in securing the services of Sebastian Vettel. Whitmarsh was highly critical of the 23-year-old German recently, describing him as a “crash kid” after punting Jenson Button out of the Belgian grand prix.

Durango, the Italian racing team, has confirmed Jacques Villeneuve’s announcement that there are plans to buy an existing formula one team. After the FIA decided recently to leave the 13th team entry vacant in 2011, 1997 world champion Villeneuve said “plan B” is to “take over one of the existing teams”.

Heidfeld to leave Pirelli role on Friday
Pirelli on Wednesday said it is happy with Nick Heidfeld despite the German signing to race at Sauber for the rest of 2010. It has been reported that the 33-year-old might not vacate his tyre testing role even though this could give the Hinwil based team an unfair advantage over its rivals.

Felipe Massa has not been relocated to a purely supportive role for the rest of the 2010 season, Ferrari team Stefano Domenicali has insisted. Brazilian Massa, who contentiously moved over to let his teammate Fernando Alonso win July’s German grand prix, sounded resigned to a subordinate role on Sunday at Monza.

Brawn paid himself and his colleagues more than $10m
Ross Brawn and other directors shared an impressive dividend after his Brackley based formula one team won the 2009 titles. According to financial news service Bloomberg, the team’s 55-year-old British boss shared $31 million with his co-directors before the team was sold to Mercedes for about US $170 million.

In Silverstone 1000kms last weekend
Strakka Racing concluded their record-breaking season with another emphatic class win in the final round of the Le Mans Series at Silverstone on Sunday. The team’s three drivers; Jonny Kane, Nick Leventis and Danny Watts built on an unbeaten run of pole position starts to win LMP2 by a margin of almost a minute, overcoming bodywork damage along the way and establishing a new class lap record for the redeveloped Silverstone circuit.

Franck Mailleux has helped steer the Signature Plus team to second place in the 2010 teams’ championship after securing sixth place in Sunday’s Silverstone 1000km race. The result ensured the French squad concluded their second season in endurance racing as the top petrol-powered team with their Dunlop-shod Aston Martin Lola package.
