Plans for adjustable ‘proximity’ rear wings next year are not set in stone, according to FOTA chairman Martin Whitmarsh. The idea, giving chasing drivers the ability to reduce drag and therefore better mount overtaking moves, was championed by the teams association and recently rubber-stamped by the FIA.

Red Bull Racing is building up a new chassis for Mark Webber after his backflip crash during last Sunday’s European grand prix. The Australian emerged unhurt from the frightening impact, which included a backwards somersault, a smash against an advertising hoarding whilst airborne, and a high speed final shunt into the tyre barrier.

Sunday at Valencia finally vindicated his decision to sign rookie Kamui Kobayashi, according to team boss Peter Sauber. The Japanese impressed with his feisty debut drives at the end of last year, when Toyota was on the way out of formula one and Timo Glock was recovering from injury.

Insiders suggested the Ferrari driver had risked sanctions for questioning the actions of the FIA stewards in applying a drive-through penalty long after Lewis Hamilton overtook the safety car in Valencia.

A mischievous Spanish press is ramping up the acrimony between Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.
Earlier this week, after Alonso had accused the FIA of manipulating the outcome of the European grand prix, his former McLaren teammate Hamilton responded by surmising that the Spaniard was suffering from “sour grapes”.

Kimi Raikkonen could be asked to test formula one tyres for the sport’s new exclusive supplier Pirelli.
It has emerged that the Italian company will supply two sets of tyres to each team at a special Abu Dhabi test immediately after November’s season finale. But Pirelli is also keen to do some testing before then, and – after initially running with a GP2 car – is considering using either an old BMW or Toyota car.

Changes to the layout of Valencia’s street circuit could be made prior to F1′s return next year. After last weekend’s third consecutive running of the European grand prix in the Spanish port city, the layout has again been criticised for not hosting enough overtaking moves.

In New Jersey doubleheader
Lara scored his first series win in race one of the doubleheader, while O’Neill and Kraut added Expert Series and Masters Series wins in the Garden state. JDC MotorSports returned to victory lane in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear over the weekend (June 26-27), capturing the Round Six win at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Nick Wittmer’s Goal is Victory at the Grand Prix de Mirabel
After earning four podiums (including one victory) at Ontario’s Mosport track during the season’s first few rounds, the Lombardi Honda Racing team will participate at the first Quebec event of 2010 Canadian Touring Car Championship to be held this weekend in Mirabel.
But the Ferrari team boss expressed anger that concerns about the Italian team’s pre-Valencia running at Fiorano had been aired by his rivals in the media.
