The Brantford, Ont. racer turned a lap at one minute, 15.126 seconds around the 3.2km (2.0-mile) course on his Canadian Kawasaki Motors Kawasaki ZX-10R during the Pirelli SuperPole session to earn his first $500 Inside Motorcycles Pole Position Award of the 2009 season.

Rossi celebrated his historic victory, and third win of the season
Valentino Rossi has become only the second rider in motorcycle grand prix history to reach 100 wins with a measured victory at Assen on Saturday. The reigning six-time MotoGP world champion, who began round seven equal on points (and wins) with Fiat Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo and Ducati’s Casey Stoner, slipped from pole to second behind Dani Pedrosa at turn one.

Tobias Hegewald secures commanding maiden victory
Andy Soucek has been given a ten second penalty by the FIA stewards following an incident at Les Combes on lap three of today’s (Saturday) Formula Two race at Spa-Francorchamps. The Spanish driver overshot the corner whilst trying to attack Tobias Hegewald for the lead. His car then ran across the grass and returned to the track immediately in front of Julien Jousse. The Frenchman had to take avoiding action and lost his place to Miloš Pavlović in the process.

Max Mosley on Friday suggested F1′s new peace may a short-lived, with FOTA to possibly resurrect plans for a breakaway series. The teams alliance, however, did not agree, insisting subtly that the agreement with the FIA is on track notwithstanding the fury of the Paris federation’s president.

Timo Scheider coped best with the difficult conditions in his Audi A4 DTM
A mix of thunderstorms, rain and sunshine made qualifying for the third DTM round of the season at the Norisring in Nuremberg a thrilling affair. Reigning DTM champion Timo Scheider coped best with the difficult conditions in his Audi A4 DTM. With a lap time of 49.012 seconds, the 30-year old set the fastest time at the 2.3 kilometres long street circuit.

Dario Franchitti’s run of short track form continued into Richmond
Having won six days earlier at Iowa Speedway, the Scot claimed the PEAK Performance Pole Award for Saturday night’s SunTrust Indy Challenge. Driving the #10 Target Chip Ganassi Racing car, Franchitti recorded a four-lap average of 167.315mph around the 0.75-mile oval, to reprise his 2007 championship year pole that came courtesy of driver points after qualifying was rained out.

Valentino Rossi has indicated he might be willing to switch to formula one in 2011 if Ferrari will run a third car. At the press conference with Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone in Paris last Wednesday, Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo told reporters that part of the peace deal was an indication that the works teams are prepared to field three cars apiece.

German tops every session in Belgium
Tobias Hegewald has taken pole for tomorrow’s race at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, with a time of 2:08.233s – the fastest lap of the weekend. The German has dominated the event so far and has finished at the top of the timesheets in all four sessions. Canadian Robert Wickens was second, with Andy Soucek in third. Young Briton Alex Brundle took a superb fourth position, with Frenchman Julien Jousse in fifth.

At the Parts Canada Superbike Championship doubleheader at Mosport
The first annual Motorcycle Road Racers Reunion will be held in conjunction with the Parts Canada Superbike Doubleheader Weekend at Mosport, July 17-19. Scheduled for Saturday, July 18, the Reunion will feature eleven prominent racers and one Legendary Sidecar Racing Team from over the years as the “Masters of Mosport”, who will participate in a parade lap and an autograph session during the lunch break that day.

Fabrizio on a roll in Donington qualifying
Michel Fabrizio (Ducati Xerox) confirmed himself to be one of the quickest men currently around as he powered his 1098 round the 4.023 km circuit in a time of 1 minute 30.775 seconds in Donington’s first qualifying session. Lapping just four-tenths of a second off the record held by Troy Bayliss, the Italian was the only rider to dip under the 1’31” mark on a dry track after the initial rain showers.

Briton Alexander Sims (Mücke Motorsport, 0:55.367 minutes) claimed his maiden pole position in the Formula 3 Euro Series. As the Norisring dried out, he set the fastest time in the final second, outpacing ART Grand Prix trio Jules Bianchi (0:55.620 minutes), Adrien Tambay (0:55.644 minutes) and Esteban Gutierrez (0:55.712 minutes), who ended up second to fourth.

Jordan Szoke of Brantford, Ont. was the pacesetter in practice Friday for this weekend’s third round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship at Calgary’s Race City Motorsport Park. The three-time defending national champion, with eight Race City Superbike wins to his credit, toured the 3.2km (2.0-mile) track in a time of one minute, 15.236 seconds on his Canadian Kawasaki Motors / Kawasaki ZX- 10R.
