Formula V8 3.5: Rinus Veekay (Fortec Motorsposts) on top in Bahrain Day 1 morning session

Nine drivers went on-track

The first session of collective testing for the World Series Formula V8 3.5 at Bahrain was completed today following to the final round of the year at the middle Eastern venue.

Nine drivers went on-track, with 17-year-old Dutchman Rinus Veekay (Fortec Motorsports), runner-up of the USF2000, scoring the fastest laptime in 1:45.067, only 0.140s faster than Henrique Chaves (AVF), who won his first race in the RPM-MKTG category on Saturday night. Third place went to Pedro Piquet (AVF) who arrived straight from Macau, where he entered the Formula 3 Grand Prix. Piquet, son of three-time world champion Nelson, is the second Brazilian, after 2017 champion Pietro Fittipaldi, approaching the series and coming from a prestigious dynasty.

Rinus Veekay (Fortec Motorsports)
“This is a great car, I’ve been really impressed by the speed in the fast corners. The breaking point is similar to the other open wheels cars I drove so far, but the most relevant difference is for sure the speed you have. It is not much different than the LMP2 I drove yesterday, even if without a roof, the situation is much better! For me this was also the first experience with a DRS, which is something, as racing driver, you would easily have to face in the next series”.
