Loeb second on Rallye du Maroc

In preparation for competing on the Dakar Rally in January

2017-08-04_0559Less than a week after confirmation that he will continue to race with Peugeot in the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy next season [read here], France’s Sebastien Loeb finished second on Rallye du Maroc.

In the five-stage, 2,570 kilometre event that ran from Fes to Erfoud in Morocco, Loeb and co-driver Daniel Elena overcame a range of terrains to finish on the podium, in the same position that they finished the 2017 Dakar rally earlier this year. Loeb was quickest on stage one to take the lead of the rally, and held that position until stage four, when a shock absorber broke on the Peugeot 3008DKR and the 2016 World RX of Latvia winner dropped to second, where he finished despite two punctures on the final stage.

Loeb said: “On the whole, the event went fine. Today we had a double puncture after the first timed section and ended the stage slowly, but that didn’t really change anything in the end. We tried to push hard and catch the leader but I was slowed down by the dust from the cars in front, so there was nothing more we could do.”
