RX Academy winner Jesse Kallio wins full S1600 entry for 2018

17-year old Kallio secured the title in the single-make category at the fifth and final round in Kouvola, Finland

DriverAs prize for winning the inaugural RX Academy series, Finland’s Jesse Kallio will compete at FIA World Rallycross Championship events in 2018, racing in the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Super1600.

17-year old Kallio secured the title in the single-make category at the fifth and final round in Kouvola, Finland on Saturday. Kallio had led the points since round two, scored his first win in round three and finished second in the Intermediate Classification and final at the season finale to claim the title. At the conclusion of the RX Academy season, Champion Kallio was presented with a SET Promotion Renault Twingo Super1600 car for his prize drive in 2018.

“It feels amazing to end the season like this. It was such a tight race today (in Kouvola) but I managed good qualifying and semi-final, so that was enough to be Champion,” said Kallio. “After the second and third race of the season I started to imagine winning the Championship, but the only way to do it was to keep trying. I’m happy with second place today, Kalle (Markkanen) did a very good job to win. Right now I can’t imagine racing in World Rallycross events next year, it’s amazing to have won the prize drive.”
