Update on Tiago Monteiro from the Castrol Honda WTCC teamThe Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team has issued a further statement on its driver and FIA World Touring Car Championship leader Tiago Monteiro.

“We are very pleased to report that FIA World Touring Car Championship leader Tiago Monteiro has been discharged from hospital and returned home for the first time since his recent testing incident at Barcelona.

“Tiago has already resumed a strict exercise regime as he works towards a planned return to competition at WTCC Race of China on 14-15 October.

“On behalf of Tiago, his family and the Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team, we would like to thank everybody who has looked after him since the incident and to those that have sent messages of support throughout the initial stages of his recovery.”

Tiago Monteiro is home

It is with great satisfaction that we can inform you that Tiago Monteiro has received the green light from his medical team to return home to Porto, two weeks after his accident in Barcelona testing.

The Portuguese driver will now face an intense and specific physical rehabilitation program which will complete his recovery.

Tiago Monteiro, his family and Honda, would like to thank all those who have helped and supported them during this complicated period.

The next round of the FIA WTCC World Championship will take place in China on October 14/15.

Tiago hopes to be fully recovered and able to climb behind the wheel and defend his first place in the championship.
