Glenn Haug has podium aspirations as he steps up to RX2

Norwegian treating 2017 as opportunity to learn on international stage

Previous Super1600 experience resulted in semi-final showing. 24-year-old targeting rostrum finishes – and a long rallycross career.
Glenn Haug has the podium in his sights in the 2017 RX2 International Series presented by Cooper Tires, after confirming his participation in the rebranded FIA World Rallycross Championship feeder category.

Having competed predominantly in his native Norway until recently, Haug tested his mettle on the international stage last year with five outings behind the wheel of a Citroën C2 at Super1600 level in the FIA European Rallycross Championship, making it through to the semi-final on his debut at Montalegre in Portugal.

The 24-year-old is now eager to continue his apprenticeship in RX2, and with prior experience of three of the circuits on the calendar – Lydden Hill, Höljes and Lohéac – he is looking forward to taking on the crème de la crème of young rallycross talent over the forthcoming campaign.

“It’s obviously going to be my first year at RX2 level and the calibre of competition looks to be extremely high indeed, so I need to remain realistic, but I’m quietly confident that I can come away with some strong results,” Haug said.

“I have to be targeting podium finishes – and who knows, maybe a sneaky win along the way. Mostly, though, I want to use this season to gain experience, learn and improve, with the ultimate long-term aim of forging a professional career in the sport.”

Haug joins reigning RX Lites Champion Cyril Raymond, Swedish young gun William Nilsson, American ace Tanner Whitten, brother and sister Andreas and Jessica Bäckman, rally converts Guillaume De Ridder (Belgium) and Vasiliy Gryazin (Russia), Swedish fast female Sandra Hultgren, Norwegian teenager Thomas Holmen and Swedish Crosskart exponent Anders Michalak in having signed up to the inaugural campaign of RX2. Further driver announcements will be made over the coming days and weeks.

The 2017 RX2 International Series presented by Cooper Tires will take in seven rounds across three continents in support of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy, visiting Mettet in Belgium, Lydden Hill in Great Britain, Hell in Norway, Höljes in Sweden, Trois-Rivières in Canada, Lohéac in France and Cape Town in South Africa.
