DTM parade cruises through Zandvoort’s city centre

DTM parade cruises through Zandvoort’s city centre As early as on the day prior to the DTM weekend at Zandvoort, the safety-cars went out for their first mission – with an unfamiliar destination.

The drivers didn’t head to 4.307-kilometre dune circuit but to the Zandvoort city centre. On Thursday afternoon, the safety cars represented the front end of a parade that caused a stir in the heart of the city. Grid girls gave away flyers and little gifts to the passers-by and were supported by the DTM drivers Adrien Tambay, Timo Scheider, Nico Müller, Marco Wittmann, Tom Blomqvist, Maxime Martin, Robert Wickens, Christian Vietoris and Lucas Auer.

After a stop at the guildhall, the special DTM parade arrived at its destination at the Badhuisplein, the sea front. There, the three drivers representing Audi, BMW and Mercedes-AMG were at the command of the media and numerous beach goers for pictures galore and an autographing session with presenter.

Everybody truly enjoyed the bath in the crowd and nonetheless, the parade hit the road back to the paddock after about an hour. After all, both the drivers and the safety-cars are about to start into a busy weekend. On Friday at 10:00hrs CEST (09:00hrs BST – all the following times CEST), the FIA Formula 3 European Championship young guns will kick off the motor-racing spectacle in the dunes with their first practice session. And on 17:00hrs, in their first practice session, the DTM driver will make the first appearance at the Circuit Park.

After the first familiarisation with the demanding racetrack, every hundredth of a second will count in the qualifying sessions on Saturday and Sunday. German channel Eins Festival will cover both qualifying sessions (Saturday from 16:15hrs, Sunday from 11:15hrs) and DTM’s TV partner ARD the two races of the fifth DTM weekend live (Saturday from 17:45hrs and Sunday from 13:30hrs).
