Mattias Ekström posted the fastest lap time in DTM qualifying on Sunday morning

Tom BlomqvistWith his Audi RS 5 DTM, the Swede ended up with a time of 47.804 seconds, but another driver will be on pole position. Due to his collision in the race on Saturday, during which he deprived Christian Vietoris and Robert Wickens of their respective positions, Ekström will be dropped three places on the grid.

As a result, he will be fourth on the grid for the eighth race of the season. The driver to benefit was Tom Blomqvist, who was 0.016 seconds slower than Ekström and posted the second-fastest time. The BMW driver will be starting from pole position in a DTM race for the first time in his career. Mercedes-AMG driver Paul Di Resta will be lining up alongside him on the front row of the grid. Nico Müller is also moving up one place and will be in third place ahead of Ekström.

DTM points’ leader Edoardo Mortara and Marco Wittmann, runner-up in the drivers’ standings, will be on the fifth row of the grid on Sunday. Mortara qualified ninth, Wittmann will be tenth on the grid.

The start time for the eighth DTM race of the season has changed: the action already gets underway at 13.03 hrs. ARD is broadcasting live from Nuremberg from 13.00 hrs.
